Out for some Sherwood Forest photography on the western edge of this ancient British woodland.
Photography challenges galore but with an early start & soft morning light, a window opened for a few fun shots.
Sherwood Forest is an enchanting place with this ancient British woodland dating back into prehistoric times. It's somewhere I visit often, ride on occasion & hope to explore this particular area much deeper this coming Winter ❄
The 3 shot landscape, vertical pano & 2 shot portrait, horizontal pano both appear to have stitched well. Be very interested to hear which perspective you prefer (3 tall or 2 wide)?
Thanks for watching, I really appreciate the kind support - hopefully be back for some more Sherwood Forest photography soon with the Samyang 18mm f2.8 🤔 Got plenty more ancient British woodland coming up too, with trips into an epic Pine forest and something a little more wild planned... 😎👍🏻
Till then, please stay safe & I'll catch you soon 🙏🏼

Found a new love for woodland photography after watching all your videos recently. Sherwood Forest is near to me and I went many times as a child and have only appreciated how amazing the place is since I started visiting with my camera. Shame you don’t make the videos any more as your photos are fantastic. If I can get some half as good as yours then I’ll be delighted

As usual Steve you find some great subjects in the woodland. I really liked the 3 shot pano. I recently picked up Sony 20mm F/1.8 G lens for my Sony A7iii. I also like using the Sony 70-200 f/4 G lens for intimate shots and to compress depth of field.

thank you my friend, much appreciated 👍🏻 I find the panos can be quite a challenge in the trees, but when vertical shots present themselves they can be quite striking sometimes. Interesting to play around with stitched compositions though 🧐 Oh wow! some serious glass there... the 20mm f1.8 G is epic! and I've looked at it more times than I care to remember.. then the 70-200 f4 G what thing of beauty that is! 😎 I'm going to play with this Samyang 18mm f2.8 and see how I get on with it. If it collects dust I'll leave it in the bottom of my bag but if I reach for it often I can see a future trade-in for the 20mm f1.8 G myself - be great to hear how you find it in the real world sometime 👍🏻

I just discovered your channel. You have some really nice woodland images. I go to the main visitors centre area with my camera quite a lot. Which woodlands in the area would you say are the best?

Hey, welcome! & thank you very much for the kind comment 👍🏻 That's a great question.. and I suppose comes down to the type of images you try to capture? It's hard to beat the main Nature Reserve for lots of ancient trees but head North to Budby South Forest for atmospheric shots.. misty/murky days are cool up there. Then look West from the Nature Reserve out toward Worksop for mixed woodland/Pine and dotted ancients (great for green backdrops through Winter). Sherwood Pines is a joy with the right weather & honestly the best thing I could advise is pick a day, Google Map a little woodland on the outskirts and go explore 😎👌🏻 If you share your images on Instagram drop me a DM, I'd be interested to follow & check out your work . All the very best, Steve

@@StevePikePhoto thank you for the useful info 👍. I've been doing exactly that recently. Studying Google maps to find little woodlands and then going for a walk. I've just followed you on Instagram 👍

@@brummiesteve3825 for my stills I use the Sony a7 and for video I actually use a GoPro 7 Black.. My video is on the edge of acceptable but with the camera being so small I sacrifice quality for lightweight at the moment. I'll probably end up with an APS-C a6000 range body for video in time - so I can use the the same lenses for video and photo. Hope that helps mate? any specific Qs feel free, am happy to help if I can 👍🏻

@@brummiesteve3825 ahh I see 👍 Well the Hero 7 Black with its image stabilization is good value today. They arn't 100% reliable & tend to get hot with prolonged use at higher resolutions & frame rates. The Hero 8 has improved stabilization & I read better heat handling capabilities, so its less of a bargain but may handle that bit better. I ride MTB so a GoPro has multiple uses for me but if I didn't MTB I think a small mirrorless camera & shooting at 1080p instead of 2k would be the way I'd go.
