There are rules on wagers. You cant wager what you dont have. You cant bet -100 if you have 100. Noone would accept those terms to begin with.

But what does it mean to "have" negative points? Clearly, if you have 1000 points, you have more than -3000 points. You can't wager *more* points than you have, sure, but if your score is positive, you by definition have more points than any negative value.

Well, Hank should have bet 301, because he knew the most Craig could get would be 1400 if he bet everything, so if Hank was correct with 301 he would be garunteed a win. If Hank got it wrong and Craig bet everything and won, he would have lost regardless of bet.

To be honest, Hank lost because he didn't think a bit on game theory, surprisingly! When he had 1100 and Craig had 700, the only logical amount to bet would be 350. Assuming Craig bets all (which is most likely since he's the underdog), Hank would have to loose and Craig would have to win for Hank to loose the entire competition. Craig bets 700, Hank bets 350. Craig wins and Hanks wins, Craig has 1400 and Hank has 1450. Craig bets 700, Hank bets 350, Craig looses and Hank looses, Craig has 0 and Hank has 750. Also protects Hank in case Craig thinks the question is so hard that he doesn't bet anything, even if he then answers correct and Hank answers wrong, Hank is still 50 above.

Well, I mean yes, but strictly any amount larger than 300 and less than 400 would do, by similar logic. 301 is the lower limit for where getting it right guarantees a win, and 399 is the upper limit for where getting it wrong would not lead to a loss just in case craig bet 0. +Nexus2Eden Eagles do that, I've seen it. But not often. It's kind of a bogus question they way they talked about it here. Eagle prefers to snag a light fish at the surface of the water, and keep right on flying, without hardly slowing down, ideally without even getting anything wet but his talons. When they wind up IN the water, floundering with their wings, it's a minor disaster. It only happens when they snag a fish that is much bigger than estimated, and is too heavy to fly away with. (That means a BIG fish. Eagles have an astonishing thrust-to-weight ratio. They're almost all wing. Like a Vulture or a Condor, but much more agile.) So I'm saying that the paddling-with-wings thing, is only a last-ditch move to save themselves, if they think they have a chance to hang onto the too-huge fish and still make it to shore where the beach is not too far away. The only other choice, is to give up the food, which is the LAST option to consider. They'll only do that to avoid drowning. Eagles never INTEND to go swimming. It only happens by accident. So they're certainly not competing with ducks, anatomically or otherwise. That comparison was absurd.

Hank should have staked anywhere between 300 and 400 points, because in that case, the only way Craig could win is if he both answered correctly, and hank answered incorrectly. It would give Hank the most statistically likely chance of winning, even with random guesses. To be exact, he'd have an 81.25% chance, if guesses were random.
