Taurus G3 Stress Test

We took the new Taurus G3 to the range and we put it through our Stress Test. We put 1500 rounds through it. We placed it in sand, water, and mud. The firearm performed well. We only had one issue with a stoppage. Once we got it cleared up the G3 continued to run with no more malfunctions.

stress tests like such are just not applicable to all firearms in general because not all firearms are created equal. This type of test are better suited for battle rifles and pistols where the chances of that sand-water-mud situation has a good to fair chance of happening. Taurus firearms are mainly designed and made for the civilian home, sport, and self-defense market, as you already know.good luck on finding sand and mud and bodies of water in cities where I live.Taurus firearms are not even “mil-spec”. Very good gun the G3 is, that’s for sure. Reliable and I have one myself.

Just picked one up, the main reason was for all the good reviews and because my Glock 19x went down for a bit, waiting on new parts. My Glock has just about 5,500 rounds through it and it is in need of a tune-up. I always perform a drop test on my Glock after each range session and well it didn't pass. I so far got only 125 rounds through the Taurus but I am very impressed.

I just bought an FDE/OD Slide G3 at the Gunshow here in Everett, WA this afternoon. It felt better in my hand than the G19 and the XDM J21. It felt very similar in hand to the FN 509. This one was about $250 cheaper though. I have have the new Georgia model with the FDE frame and the OD anodized slide.

Thanks man I just bought myself a g3 and I'm 400 rds in rn and its running great. I did however have a few problems with mine loading the sig v-crown hollow points but everything else seemed to feed perfect

Crider prepping channel CPC weird because mine does the same thing with those . I knew it was the ammo because everything else feeds fine .

Rick V I actually shot 15 of those in my G3 without any hiccups or issues at all. They do pack a good smooth punch with power. That will now be the HP I stick with!

I bought a box of Federal HST Practice & Defend. Federal says the practice rounds are supposed to run just like the defense rounds. I ran all 50 rounds of the practice and 15 rounds of the hollow points through my G3 without a problem.

For a $250 dollar gun it more than exceeded expectations. I have a G2c, 400ish through it with probably 6 types of ammo intentionally mixed with no hiccups. Taurus has genuinely improved, and the triggers on these are pretty damned good. If Taurus makes a 5+ inch barrel longslide version I'll buy it. This model is too close to my G2C.

@@momotyson6428 I would say yes it. I have several of these. I use them as car guns. If stolen I am not out a lot of money and they perform well. I like the safety on this pistol for that added layer of safety because my wife or daughter may need to use this gun. I use these when I train people on trigger squeeze while maintaing sight alignment. They are double action so they are great for this drill. Nothing g else will improve accuracy like dry firing will.

I use non alcohol break cleaner. It cuts quickly dirt, oil, and carbon with a quick squirt. Then I use frog lube the green paste. I warm the gun. Use my fingers and smear on the frog lube. I let it cool down then I wipe it off. The lube is trapped in the steel. When you shoot it the gun heats up and releases the frog lube.

I had the same extended magazine and causes a lot of malfunctions. Its not the water, sand etc...

We shot 1500 rounds in one day. You consider 11 or 12 malfunctions a lot. And we did drop it in sand with no magazine in the gun. We got sand all up in the gun on purpose. Once it blew the sand out no more malfunctions for hundreds of rounds. 1500 rounds at one time. That's a lot. It just kept shooting and shooting and shooting. My fingers were raw from loading magazines. It ate the skin off my hands we shot it so much. Maybe it was the magazine.

@SC LEGAL CARRY For 1,500 rounds its not a a lot... I just noticed you all had similar issues with the 30 round extended mag. The Taurus g3 its an excellent gun and those few malfunctions were probaly due to the magazine itself and not the gun. By the way, mine was ProMag Sig p226 30 round magazine. Excellent stress test video 👍

We camp, hunt and fish. We take our pistol. You can open carry when hunting and fishing in South Carolina. I have knocked my pistol out of my holster using a tree climber in the dark. I have fallen off the boat. We hunt in the swamps near Sumter SC and I have been stuck so deep in mud I had to be pulled out. It's crazy the water mokisins are so mean in the swamp they swim right at you if you are in their territory. I guess if you never left the city this may not apply. That would stink. Be Safe

SC LEGAL CARRY i totally get your point. “accidents” out in the backcountry such as dropping your gun, or wading to cross a creek, or climbing a tree after dropping your gun after being ambushed by a black bear, lol, oh f¥%&kI mean, there’s always that’s possibility of that happening. And like all accidents, most are preventable with proper planning, training, and in the case of a firearm or a pistol, the use of proper retention system to prevent dropping your pistol “accidentally. and with that all said, yes, I miss (Rock Hill) SC, my first home state but like there, AZ is constitutional carry so we basically wear our guns, lol. and although we do not have the same geographic feature, we sure have our flash floods and sandstorms. Those wreak havoc on weapons systems, especially those dust storm if you’re caught out in the open. And yes, I do go out in nature. I’m a backpacker (still am) for many years in the Sierras in CA before I became a gun enthusiast so I exactly know what it’s like to be out in the backcountry, and what conditions to expect on any given time of the year and to survive and thrive for days sometimes weeks , alone. Actually in a life or death situation, the heightened fear, anxiety and adrenaline may contibute to losing some of your finer motor skills and increase the likelihood of dropping or mishandling your gun. John Wick has nerves of steel and never gets rattled, but in a real world life and death situation most people will be affected far more than they ever dreamed they would be while sitting in the comfort of their living room. I have never dropped a gun at a range, but have while trampling through the bush. Some guns fare better with dirt and grit in them than others, but the only one I am aware of designed to be highly resistent to sand, dirt and mud is an AK-47.

They really don't care to be dry, either. I watched a 1000 round steel case torture test, it jammed once at around 920,a couple drops of oil on the slide rails, and back to shooting. Dirty mags can make for problems on some.

My first time doing this. You are right. I put it in the water with no mag and slide locked open. But I watch to be sure. I did not have the mag in the gun when it went in the sand and when it went in the mud. I put it in the sand twice with no mag. I had to cut one out. I messed up when I was talking. Do you think having the slide open caused all the malfunctions by letting the sand get in the chamber?

Hey I'm about to get that gun I'm not planning on shooting and stressing the gun as you did maybe going to the range twice a year and I will use HP bullets since in my country el Salvador you can get a hub every 2 years don you recommend that gun for personal defense and sometimes I've seen other reviewers having failure to feed with HP bullets do you recommend that gun for me knowing that I will maybe shoot it like I said twice a year and it will. Be only 50 rounds every time because if it fails I have to wait 2 years to get another gun

I finally got her to join me. She was so nervous. We had a great time together that day. That is the great thing about videoing yourself, it shows your weak spots, especially the ones you don't hear when someone tells you. During my tenure at Winthrop University I had to video myself teaching class then write about my weakness and strength as a teacher. I sprayed it with my casing spray oil. I spray it on my cases as I make ammo. This stuff was so dry when I got it.

Yes, I watched a 1000 round torture test with Russian steel case, it got a bit dry, but a couple drops of lube and it finished the test without further issues.

Yes. I sprayed it with the lube spray that I put on my cases when I reload. It helped them to function better. I always spray these.

I do own a lot of them. I know certain guns have issues with them, but I have had good luck. My Kel Tec Sub 2000 does not like the Barretta mags but it loves the pro mags. My buddy purchased 7 Barretta mags for his, I went with the pro mags, that man sure can cuss.

@@sclegalcarry7979 Curious if you left your Sub 2000 completely stock or have you upgraded it? Kel Tec was very inventive with this design though they went cheapo on some things I consider important like using a plastic feed ramp and frame pins that have a tendancy to loosen and walk out on you. Overall a very neat idea, and there are lots of options for customizing if that's the direction you want to go. Are the Sub 2000's you are referring to Gen 1 or Gen 2?

Pro mags for a Sig p226 9mm is what I used. Bloodywheels sells the mag extention plates to fill the void at the bottom of the mags.
