Can I mix coco fiber and sand? Or does it have to be peat moss soil?
@thepurelife5876 Жыл бұрын
The issue with Coco fiber is, in centipedes longer then 3"TBL they are prone to swallowing the fibers which they CAN'T digest, causing impaction and death. This doesn't happen with every centipede, but I've had it happen to a number of dehaani, and a few SA giants and I confirmed it through checking their digestive tract after they died. Coco fiber also allows mold growth, peat doesn't. Peat is really the only way to go if you really care about your pet IMO.

Will this work for a scolopendra subspinipes piceoflava from Indonesia if I were to increase its size?
@jeremydyar75663 жыл бұрын
I have a short little youtube video on my channel if you want to check out the centipede and the enclosure I have going as of now.

It would, remove the sand section and do it 100% in the composite. Don't use cocofiber or plantation soil and also avoid any dry moss being in the enclosure. Side ventilation is vital for them, top ventilation will not work and they'll die over time. I suggest 70% peat with 30% sand mix. Have the ventilation holes at ground level.

@@scolopendridae1 it goes for all Centipedes, ventilation is vital for all species, however some need a lot more. S. alternans likes super high ventilation just like S. heros and will die quickly if it isn't provided.
