any scooter with a gy6 motor will be a good choice because its the most popular motor used so it has the widest selection of parts availability. diagnosing the current issue is a different story, ive found riding during the winter and just over time the valves lose lashing and the intake will close. its an easy fix with a couple extra locknuts. other than that cheap to fix and amazon has all the parts you need.

i had a 150 cc gy6 chinese scooter for a couple of years. it started to rust everywhere because they did not use stainless steel screws. it looked like total crap after 1 year and started running like garbage. one of its tires was always going flat apparently due to poor rim seal as i could find no leak. it would NOT go faster than about 53 mph, unless you were on a flat surface with the wind at your back or going downhill. only took it on the freeway ONCE. got off as quickly as possible on the next exit. nearly run over by fast moving cars. acceleration to top speed was extremely slow. if you can keep one in a garage and only ride it on side streets, maybe. but even on very busy city streets where traffic was 40-45 mph i felt the scooter was very unsafe due to its poor acceleration. if you are serious about commuting with a motorcycle on streets with heavy traffic you need at least 200 cc to 250 cc for city and 350 cc for freeway

My daughter bought one of the TaoTao 150's. It would not run. She paid $650.00 for it with 0 miles. After she got feed up with it, she gave it to me. I took out the carburetor, played around with different jet configurations and boom. Now it runs like a rabbit from a coyote. I weigh 250lbs at 6'2". On a flat road it holds 60mph and I have hit 72mph on a good day. It gets 82mpg. I've never been as impressed by a scooter in my 50+ years. The biggest issue I still have with it is the plastic body panels. They pop apart at the seams and break if you sneeze on them. But for the cost... Buy one, get it tuned right and enjoy.

The engines are nice, but you have to do maintenance, the body is kind of cheap, but you get what you pay for, and you can change the bolts and screw down or glue what is coming off, however, nowadays Chinese scooter are getting better, not as cheap as they used to be, for $1500 you can buy some decent 150cc or even 200cc scooters

Hummmm. 55-60 mph. The GY6 engine is a very reliable machine but. From a dealer and Service perspective, what is the cruising speed that one can keep without harming this little moped. I would have to commute 18 miles to work one way. It's more or less a straight shot. The most concern is a 15 miles long hwy (1 traffic light) with a speed limit of 70 mph. Would a 60 mph cruising speed, in this case, be possible? How many miles could you put on such a scooter when used on a almost daily base and 500-800 miles per month used. I guess that is a question that many people have which have that M endorsement on the DL and looking for a fun ride or need to save money.

I can tell you 1 thing, I bought a 50cc taotao scooter to go to work, 16 miles from my house, straight shot state road (not highway, but big road with 50mph speed limit and people going faster), i used to be full throttle pretty much the all time, at about 35-40-mph (just stopping for coffee half way), the scooter had 11000km (around 7500 miles ) when i bought it, now has 16000km (about 10000 miles) and still running strong (of course had to change the belt 2 times in 4 years, and decided to replace the variator too, even if not needed yet, parts are very cheap and you can do lots of repairs yourself), with 150cc motor you should have no problem at all for a 18 miles trip (36 round trip), these engines are very durable if maintenance is done regularly (change oil every 1500-2000 miles, use good oil, good gas, replace belts when starting to deteriorating, clean air filter (and replace it when necessary), believe me, I have been riding scooters since I was 13 years old (I am from Italy...), if you take care of these scooters they last forever, and its very funny to work on them, and only need a few tools.

Your traveling on a road is 55 mile an hour or less you're okay on it with a 150cc Chinese scooter but if you're planning on taking it on a road at 60 70 mph speed limit I would get something way bigger because you're going to get run over not only if the speed limit 70 mph everybody's going to be traveling 80 85 mph anyway. By the way 40 mile an hour is a minimum in a 55 mph zone in case nobody knows it if you can't do 40 in a 55 it's called impeding traffic you will get a ticket

The only Chinese scooter that is better than any other are the wolf brand scooters. The plastics and paint are better, comes with LED lights and the electrical system comes with a 12 poles stator. The camshaft is the most aggressive camshaft I have ever seen for GY6 engines. The piston (57.4) is the one with higher engine compression numbers I have ever checked. And the head is the second better on engine compression I have ever seen. All the ones shown in here for the exception of the 3rd one, if was made by ZNEN, if not I need to know which company made it, are garbage.

@@mandapalque But I'm saying the one I had was straight. It gave me no engine issues what so ever. Besides routine maintenance. Lights, belts, tires, carburetors, spark plugs, solenoids and tires. Oil changes and gear oil every once in awhile. I was very satisfied only paid 500 for it brand new. Not so lucky this time I have to pay full price and plus I'm getting a bigger one. That's why I was asking because I was curious to know if the difference in engine size would make it less reliable. I'm already going in knowing I'm going to have to work on it 😂

Yes that's the one I have runs great. If you buy one as soon as you get it change your oil do not start at that is not specifically motor oil it is shipping oil that's why so many people talk about Chinese scooters being junk it's because they don't know what they're doing when they receive it is Chinese scooters has to be broken in a certain way and the first thing you got to do is change the motor oil put good quality oil on it and change the rear gearbox oil before you ever even start it

'needles'/etc., but even the tires show only minor wear from 2008!) 42mph w/a 225lb. rider...and runs 'quite as a tomb' at 'WOT'.

Correct ! All Chinese cheap , low quality . All engines are same GY6 clone , so parts cheap on Ebay , very cheap . Labor cost and unreliability is what gets you. Buy new , resale after one year and start over . Otherwise , spend 3X the price on a NON CHINESE scooter and easily put 10,000 miles on it before any problems

Correct , Chinese is 1/3 the price , last 1/3 as long & parts are low quality / cheap . So you'll be fix/repair often . If you buy Chinese , follow proper. maintenance / break-in and resale after one year (before parts start to fail) . Then start over again.

It's pretty obvious. You can go around and in between cars where you couldn't in a car. Every year they have a firework show in town. If you're in a car it will take you 3 hours to get home just 20 minutes away. I always drive my Honda metropolitan and I'm home in 20 minutes because I can go around the traffic jams.

Gunine3 scooter are very good I bought a 2018 buddy for 1500 and best buy ever. I want to juice it up make it go 65, put an 80 cc kit on upgrade carb and chsngr muffler and your done , they don't lose value

I agree. I've had some Chinese 150 scooters, and compared to the PCX, it's not even close. The fuel injected, water cooled engine is quieter and peppier. The PCX is THE nicest 150cc scooter I've ever owned. These aren't even close.

@@442minty I don't know. You get what you pay for. All scooters require upkeep. Take care of it, follow the maintenance schedule and it'll last a very long time. I think people so often just ride/drive and forget, which causes high prices for repairs. I've had German cars that didn't cost me a fortune because of this policy of taking care of the car before it becomes problematic and expensive.

*That isn't the issue!* It doesn't matter if it's $500 direct your driveway if there on ongoing issues with fuel-system/engine/power-train/electrical failures/ on a NEW BIKE! ( 'Tao- Tao' is not a 'high-quality' machine...it's a cheap scooter and that's all, and everyone knows it...but they are MUCH easier to get 'upgraded' parts for to make it more reliable) Honda/Yamaha make quality scooters that will last many years, especially Honda...but they aren't cheap when new, and very hard-to-find used because people just really don't want to get rid of them!)

Don't waste your time and money on any of these, they are all junk from China. I recently got a 2003 Honda Reflex for just over a grand. I replaced the tires which were original. The bike has just over 5k miles on it. It runs and rides like new now, and i would ride this bike any where without worry now. I can cruise 70-80 very easy. It has plenty of power and luggage space. And, being a Honda, it will last forever ! So, avoid junk as advertised on this site, and get a used Honda, Yamaha etc., you will not regret it.

But you guys are aware that all the parts that are used for your high priced scooters and Motorcycles are made in China. Yes that is right. Even the Japanese complain that everything they have is made in China. The quality difference comes from the china mindset. In china is a scooter owner a thing of the past. It's seen related to the Mao Ze Dong Ara. In China they believe that scooter riders are all uneducated idiots. They slowly learn, that the rich kids in Japan, Europe and America using scooters for fun, as a toy for kids and rarely for essential transportation purposes.
