Friends, many MBBS graduates are confused regarding which branch to choose for post graduation. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) is an emerging specialty of modern medicine in India. It is well established specialty in western countries like USA and Europe. They poles apart. A physio cannot prescribe medicines this is the main difference. Also physios are trained specialists but not physicists.They are not mbbs graduates so cannot be defined as doctors.

Good scope in abroad. you shall get jobs in gulf countries, Australia and Canada with specific exam. For USA- need to clear USMLE. For UK- PLAB

Hello seniors. I am going to opt for PMR in this neet pg 2021 counselling. I may get DNB at my rank, but the DNB institutes available also do some surgical procedures eg tendon transfer etc... I am not so much into surgery. Plz anyone guide, should I keep the DNB hospitals as options? I am finding PMR subject very interesting, so not willing to leave it from options also. Please do opine what should I do..

A physio cannot prescribe medications as per law. This is the main difference. Also md doctor has comparatively vast knowledge and expertise. Cannot compare the two.

If anyone required medication for their primary diseases then they can go to MD medicine and physician . Patient doesn’t have to come to PMR . For Excercise specialist or electrotherapy modalities , Physiotherapy curriculum in India and abroad is fully established to assess and treat patients .
