Yea what the tau could have tried in this instance is to box them in and create a crossfire box the problem is doing that when eldar ships are so quick. But being the slower ships on larger maps it can be a nightmare to accomplish much. But generally fanning out a little bit and trying to box them into a corner is one way to be able to fight them. The Eldar ships are squishy and easy to harm especially for heavy hitting factions. But its catching them thats the trick especially if the player wielding Eldar is good with the hit and run approach and navigation.

The Tau player should have kept his ships together so the defence turrets cover all ships. Like that the bombers just took out one target at a time.
