I buy a copy via airmail when stuff is released so I can have a review up in time so people can still snag one from BBTS (when they don't sell out).

6m30s - ERROR "Big gap between the legs" - You're talking about the square gap between the feet in fighter mode. That *IS* how it's supposed to look like. The others are incorrect. It's one of the few areas the CHEAP 80's Gakken Tripple Changer got right. (LOL). Look at the models and artwork of the Legioss in fighter mode... yep, wide square gap. It looks better from the rear where it looks like two engines side by side. Out of these three, I would for sure only want to get the Sentinel version, even though it's much smaller. It looks the least like a toy. BTW: Great review of all of them. Thanks.

I love how the Sentinel toy solves the long-standing problem of what happens to the pilot when going from jet to robot. The cartoon design makes it look like he gets flipped 270 degrees! Here the nosecone disassembles and the cockpit just slides back -- closer to what one imagines would have to happen in the "real thing".

While I do not have any of the toynami, Aoshima( think that’s it) I do have a match box , evolution, and I preordered this one. Matchbox (Gaken) decent for its time .Evoltion tried and failed , so I’m very excited to get this variant.

After seeing the front profile of all five Im so glad to own the Gakken Alpha that front profile is great but the Sentinel Guardian mode cockpit gimmick is super rad

One of my favorite. I still have a Gakken 1/35 in storage. It's very hard to get the new recent ones. A dream would be a larger version with a collapsible cyclone bike in it's storage bay. The fightermode and intake of the Sentinel looks spot on anime accurate, even the pilot exit in soldier mode. I would really like to see an upscaled version of that.

Great review as always. Can't wait for my Sentinels to arrive. I'm so happy I skipped on the Evos, then again, their shortcomings were obvious from the start since they weren't tackling the inherent design problems any differently than Aoshima or CMs. Sentinel finally took the Legioss to the next level, something that was long overdue.

Wow, I've built the models and owned the toys of the alpha models and my favorite was the alpha fighter mode only model and this is the first time seeing the sentinel toy in fighter mode or robot is perfect. Wow ..

Got the yellow Belmont Mospeada... Loved it. Got the blue ETA Legioss, loved it... A few little problems but over all Sentinel nailed it. Just got the red Zeta Legioss, love it they knocked it out of the park again. I hope they do the green iota, the dark legioss ( shadow fighters), the VR-38L Bartley Mospeada that Hoquet riders. I've seen the mock ups Sentinel please let me give you my money in exchange for that Mospeada.... Please.... I'd also love to see the dark mospeada that sue was wearing with the camera attached. Or course we also need a beta... In all 3 colours and the dark/Shadow mode. Also could use some 1/12 inbit scouts and protect inbit armour, 1/48 inbit grob, garmos and ghoss ( royal command battolid).

@@ScorchedEarthToys finally got my Sentinel Zeta last week... I’m almost afraid to transform it-so much resistance on the left shoulder joint I think that it’s defective. The right shoulder moved easily enough, but the left won’t go down at all. So, I have it in diver mode with one arm pointing straight forward for now. It can move up (slightly) but just not down like the other side does.

Really hoping the eventual Sentinel Rook/Horquet ride armor release isn’t going to be pink… but that seems where they’re going. Great and thorough comparison, thanks! I actually think the evolution toy looks a lot cleaner in gerwalk and battroid, but that awful fighter mode and build quality issues are a real dealbreaker.

hey man thank you so much for your review. Your service is unique. Anyway I opened this toy today - of course I had to look up your review again then. I just had to comment that I think the colouring is not very good at all. All kinds of different shades of plastics in fighter mode and none of them correspond with the 1/12 riobot.

When Sentinel first announced the Legioss they made a comment that it was designed with 'a Tread in mind' but that sales would have to be very strong. So, there's a chance.

I used to have a model of the Legioss-Zeta/Alpha mech that was branded as a GoBots Leader-1. It was thrilling to see all the greeble and panel lines of detailed version of the Legioss. But it fit together horribly and was ridiculously floppy. And the model plastic was scary thin and fragile. It had Evolution Toy proportions, IIRC.

Would you do a Valkyrie factory vs Bandai review of the vf-31 j? Also looks like Sentinel is the clear winner here.,the articulated pilot would be great to customize with gundam markers.

Do you have a link to any line art that shows a gap between the calves? All the line art I have shows the calves back to back (no gap) and the heels forming a straight line across.

Turns out we're talking about two things, two different issues of the Sentinel toy. 1 - NOW I UNDERSTAND the gap you are talking about, the Calves (whites) are not touching each other - they ARE supposed, you are correct. 2 - The Feet on the Sentinel *ARE* correct compared to the other brands, and thus looks better. I think there Sentinel made a compromise on their design, as in fighter mode - the center gap less noticeable than the feet. Perhaps the feet parts and hips wouldn't allow for them to get the calves touch? The bottom crotch vent *IS* in the way of the calves. Referring to your video at 6m12s (Bottom of the Sentinel), when I compare it to the IMAI model and some various line art versions from google search, there are some conflicts. The Knee guards are supposed to touch the Front scoop blocks. The "grey scoop block" is also longer than it should be, which causes... The central torso is a bit longer than it should be, thus the crotch vent is a bit too far low. The Knee guards should be tighter into the thighs, flush even. I think this comes down to compromise, the Legioss is a very compact design compared to the VF-1. When I look at the bottom of the Imai Legioss model (which I have) - they too compromised. The leg and most of the model is *PROPER*, but the heels are not possible! (This is why nobody makes a transforming toy - none that I know of - the $150 "conversion" kit is just three old Imai kits in one box - the old kits are about $25 each) The Sentinel is the closest thing to the 1/72 model when viewed from the top and most angles. The wings and color paint design are very accurate. I will attempt to put links here, if they work. It always amazes me that they can take a design featured on an animated show, where nothing had to conform to reality, and create an actual design that can do almost everything shown in the show. I wish I could spare the money to order some of these toys. :( Also, why haven't any of these companies created any Invid/Inbit toys? There aren't even any model kits of them, and the only Shock Trooper toy that was ever made is the old, giant one that was sold under various names. I have the smaller Playmates Scout (basically the Shock Trooper in red, without the cannons), but I wanted a ST in that scale. The large toy was kind of cheesy looking in my opinion.

I think I saw you comment on the Hagane Works Blade Liger reviews too. If you haven't, you may want to check out the ThreeZero brand of toys. Their stuff is approaching Sentinel level of engineering, but loaded with detail and most of the time weathering. And they're cheaper too.

For these types of PRICES I expect nothing less than PERFECTION. This clearly isn't. This is also one of the BIGGEST reasons I don't buy into any of the lines available. A) WAY WAY TOO EXPENSIVE B) Quality Concerns C) Lacks the Fit, Finish & Polished Engineering for the Price Point. It's too bad, b/c if Robotech/Macross would be more in line with things like MP scaled Transformers, along with better Engineering, Fit& Finish, they would literally have a license to print money. Until that day comes, and the PRICING comes down significantly, while the Quality goes up drastically, I will take a HARD PASS on all of it. A shame really, as I would enjoy having them join my collections of other childhood memories. I will keep a spot open for them, should that day come.
