My dog of 18 years (I've had him since he was 6 weeks and the runt of the litter) is dying this week. It's taken everything to safeguard his innate desire to go in his home in his time. He got another year out of his life in doing so. I'm praying to take him swiftly and painlessly as he has given so much love and life and laughter. I've been by his side everyday for the past 4 years as he steadily declined. After he "goes to college" my life will change immensely. He stopped walking a year ago and vets were forcing me to put him down or just shrug and say "He can't be helped... he's getting old." But things he needed was for flea infestation or for eye drops... still he persisted in living and enjoying his life despite what the vets said. And I was right there with him to give him every piece of life he wanted. After he passes I will be able to travel again. Or I can start a family. I know it was all worth it. The benefit and rewards of seeing him live the fullest and longest life nature intended. I don't think he feels like he's missing anything. It's costing me my sleep as he requires constant changing of positions and coddling. He poops and pees throughout the day and night and I change him then he falls soundly asleep. I've been here for him nonstop and I see it in how he trusts me completely. We have such a symbiotic relationship. I call him my Benjamin Button. I'm a Scorpio/Sag cusp so both readings resonate. Especially the Scorpio of getting my wholeness back after such a long journey. I've also been requiring reciprocity in my relationships.
