Spot on with something you said...I am one of those "gentle scorpios" but with Pluto close to my Scorpio ascendant, people seem to be intimidated by me and my energy (and my intense eyes). Ive always tried to fix that by leaning into my Taurus sun, using a sweet gentle voice and being very shy and unobtrusive.
