Speaking as a veteran, I appreciate your recognition of those who've served. But as a US Veteran, I've had the honor to serve and train next to veterans of many nations. These winds of change had nothing to do with America and the ideals of freedom are not only an American vision. It's a human vision shared by people of many nations that fight for freedom much harder than we have and continue doing so to this day.

It's a song about hope. The world has endured generations of small wars that sometimes threatened to become big wars. When the Berlin wall came down and East and West Germany reconnected there was a real sense in the world of hope and of peace for the first time in many years... The world seemed to be changing for the better... good change. It was beautiful moment in time.

Exactly. My comment insinuated Berlin not having a wall anymore meaning “border” as the Soviet Union collapsed. And yes, also the end of the east and west Germany division that was created at the end of the second world war. (I should have mention the end of east and west 🇩🇪 border.)

Incorrect. It was written before any of that happened. Klaus Mein claims he wrote the lyrics during the week or so the band were staying in Moscow surrounding its performance at the Peace Festival in early August 1989 (i.e., a couple months before the events that led to the fall of the Wall). The subject of the song's composition, of course, has been the source of no little controversy. crooked.com/podcast-series/wind-of-change/

@@mountainpeakcloud8442 I do. Communism as an ideology in theory would be beneficial to all. However, in practice communism will never function effectively or be practical. Why? Because humans dont behave the way old Marx predicted. The disenfranchisement of the proletariat would breed revolutions that would redistribute wealth from the highly concentrated bourgeoisie. Historically this is happened in Russia. However what was produced was not an egalitarian society. But, I would argue a specialized oligarchy of ruling class. Marxist fundamental flaw in his analysis of economic proceedings of humans is thus. Human nature is to want more and to sustain comfort. Due to this it is human nature to fight against the redistribution of wealth. Anyway, good talk. Karl Marx was wrong

@Danny Lix Kandi perfectly said. Since this whole homeschooling started due to COVID, I’ve been able to watch the way some of my children’s teachers are teaching our kids. They are making America seem like we are a bad place. I had to contact the school and tell them they are out of line. It’s actually quite infuriating. I’m not saying we don’t have our problems, of course we do, but quite a bit of what they say to these children are so negative.

The song was conceived before the fall of the Berlin wall. It was because of a couple concerts in the USSR. A concert in Leningrad and a year later The peace concert that was similar to our woodstock. Klaus Meine became inspired to write the song because of the changes that he noticed in just a years time between the two concerts. The beginning of the end for the Soviet Union. He became inspired to write (August 89) before the Berlin Wall came down (November 89). The song was released in Jan 91 and became an anthem of a kind of "peaceful revolution". One last detail. The Scorpions are west German and they felt that if they sang in English instead of their native german it would distance them from the bad parts of the history of Germany. They just wanted to rock and not be automatically associated with the Holocaust and WW1.

I grew up in the cold war. As a child in Elementary School I still remember all the surprise "Duck & Cover" drills that would happen in class every so often. Anyway, the United States and NATO - and - The Soviet Union and the WARSAW PACT were always poised for a major massive world war against each other. Then during the mid/ late 80's came Glasnost and Perestroika and the fall of the Berlin Wall. And it was like the whole world was able to breath a huge sigh of relief. A relief that the world was majorly easing its hair-trigger of nuclear holocaust. That's when this song came out.

I just learned this song about 3 weeks ago, (the rhythm guitar part). My fiance lives in Ukraine. I had heard this song a 100 times but never really listened to the words or thought about it. I mostly listen to the sounds. Anyway, so when I was learning the words to sing it, it occurred to me, this HAS to be about the fall of the Berlin Wall. Sure enough, I looked it up and that is what its is about. I thought about that speech that President Reagan made at the Brandenburg gate.. "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall." And I got very emotional. It meant something to me. I didn't even realize how the song had become an anthem throughout Eastern Europe for freedom, especially economic freedom, freedom from the chains of socialism. I guess that is why my fiance Elena likes it so much. I always liked it but now is one of my favorite songs.

The inspiration for this song was born by the end of the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the US, originally, but the Fall of the Berlin Wall (1989) is also added, a fact that greatly impacted the Scorpions, they are German, but basically the entire song refers to the Eastern Block and Russia, to its opening to the world. "Wind of Changes" speaks about hope, union, brotherhood between countries, peace, it is a beautiful song with a very powerful message, actually at that time you breathed that feeling of peace. I remember when Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan shook hands, the Soviet Union dissapeared (1991), Germany is reunified but ... new conflicts appeared, new wars, more victims. I can hear this song today, and feel the excitement of yesterday, but I don't think I'll breathe the winds of change tomorrow.

Watch Rock you like a hurricane! Or "Still loving you". Bad boys is good too. I live in Arizona. They have a song called Arizona because they put on a concert here at a venue that held 20,000 people. 40,000 showed up! 20,000 people watched and heard from the other side of the fence! Place was called compton terrace. No longer there but song is great.

Imagine we built a wall separating the west coast from the east coast and you have family on the side that you are not in and weren't allowed on the other side. Then after 40 years they tear diwn the wall

@@sherrykennemer2422 you are very welcome Sherry. I was a studio session drummer for 45 years. My mentor was the late great Hal Blaine. Mr. Blaine was the most recorded drummer in the history of recorded music and played with the members of the Wrecking Crew for decades. He is the drummer on the Beach Boys album Pet Sounds along with the rest of the Wrecking Crew. I myself ( in the name of anonymity) can't say what albums I performed on ( my wife would kill me) but I'm pretty sure you have heard my work. But having said that, in my opinion the music from the 50's through the 80's is the absolute best. I can give a little history of the late 60's. One of my favorite groups was the Electric Flag. Buddy Miles was a good friend and I was fortunate enough to rehearse with them. Check out the song Killing Floor. One of my favorite songs. Also check out TRIUMPH performing live in concert in Halifax Nova Scotia performing Fight the Good Fight. Rik Emmett is amazing, along with drummer Gil More and Mike Levine. And some of the nicest people I've ever met. Have a great day

@@thomasrocker7408 Yeah I Love Triumph! Oh what an awesome job to have. My friend Tom I’ve known since Jr. High School is an awesome drummer! It’s nice when you meet musicians who are nice and humble. You can friend me on Facebook if you’d like. Sherry Gann-Kennemer is me. Thanks again for responding to my question and for sharing with me some of your experiences as a session drummer 🥁 🎶 🤘🏻

@@sherrykennemer2422 I would love to friend you, but I don't do Facebook or any other platform besides KZbin. In fact I don't even own a computer. Last year I finally broke down and purchased a really nice Alesis dm10 mkii studio ekit. My neighbors were thrilled. So I jam on that a couple of hours a day. But I do check out various music reaction channels daily. I love seeing younger people learning about real music and not the computer generated crap out there today. I subscribe to Jamel aka Jamal, Mr. Video, Empress Joy-Jean, and Gitana Adele. Hopefully see you around. Have a great day 😎🐶🥁🎶

A very Important Song for Germany. Between East an West Germany in 1989. And the End of the Wall since 1961. Many have died at the Wall. From one day to the next, hundreds of thousands of families were separated by a wall for the next 28 years.
