Merchant was a very creator composer. Writing tunes for himself. And for other calypsonians. His music lives on forever. He had a nice soothing voice in Soca. It was a loss. That he died in 1999. After a long battle of AIDS since 1994. But Merchant kept on writing. Until his untimely death. He came close to Winsford Devines. And Art DeCoteau.

I heard this being played in Toulouse, France today at 'Jazz in the Parc' and it put the biggest smile on my face!! People were dancing, people were smiling, and for a few minutes I forgot all about the sadness in the world.
