It's so awesome the way Scorponok transforms off camera. I was afraid that this time they were going to show a dramatic awe inspiring transformation but fortunately the showrunners kept with the theme of having as many transformations take place off camera as possible. Then when the Autobots were running away from Scorponok I was afraid they would transform and drive away. But then I remembered that Wheeljack, Bumblebee, Mirage and Arcee don't even have vehicle modes in this show.

I heard that most of the show’s budget went to the Beast Wars characters in S3 and they didn’t have enough to design the vehicle modes of the other bots. The in-universe reason I think is that since energon is scarce transforming takes a lot of energon to use to they have to conserve as much as they can.

Don't forget that 6 episodes per season are not enough to go in-depth with the story, getting shot once can kill you but surviving impalement doesn't, gave Soundwave one of the WORST and UNBEARABLE voice heard, made Scorponok combiner size instead of titan size, teased Nemesis Prime in the trailer only for people to be enraged to see him for 2 seconds of future telling, couldn't hire the of Prime and Megatron voice actor, and weird death scaling.

This is the problem with calling Transformers "Transformers" rather than "Cybertronians," which would be more correct. I also liked what they did here with Scorponok falling down the shaft and transforming off camera to climb back out. My only complaint is that he's too small, but it doesn't matter.

This scene could’ve been cleaned up better. Bumblebee was almost right behind Optimus and the way this was edited made it seem like he walked backwards off camera. And there’s no way Bumblebee is that slow of a runner, much less being outpaced by Optimus or Wheeljack (even if he was up front). Also, this scene once again shows the limited budget they had and it’s a shame. Would have really liked to see some transformations here
