The Short of the same name went ballistic so it inspired me to have a go at a longer version as some didn’t know what it was about. I thought with the extra subs it might get a few hundred at best over some time. I never imagined it too would go crazy. A couple of people wanted Scots full performance so here it is. I have tried to use best available video and sync the best audio to it. Cheers David 👍

There should be an added category in the R&R Hall of Fame that would have Scot Halpin inducted. That category would include whoever the guy was who turned off Yoko Ono's mic on the Mike Douglas show.

yeah right. we can't even get true rock n rollers in the rock n roll hall of fame let alone rock n rollers who saved the day. but they have no problem getting hip hop and country artists in it. i think it should be abolished.

I clearly remember when this happened. Sadly, I know Scott has since passed away but what an extraordinary experience that must have been. Pulled out of the audience to fill in for Keith Moon in The Who's heyday. Probably the best rock and roll band at the time. I saw them numerous times including this tour. My kid sister and late older brother were both at this concert. My sister told me after that it was so loud in the Palace that you couldn't really hear the drums as an instrument! She said the music was like thunder, which made it hard to discern any particular instrument! But she also said that the stand-in for Keith did a good job!

First I have heard of this and it is an awesome story. Who else would have the balls to do this? He is a hero in several ways... yeah he save the Who which is the best thing ever, but then he is a legend to show people you just have to go for it when it's your time to shine. This is another story for Rock and Roll fame and history for sure. I'm so sad to hear he's no longer with us but damn what a bad ass 19 year old!

It's fun to see how the greats out there keep performing in spite of their obstacles. The way The Who brought Scot on to finish out the show reminds me a little bit of how Stevie Ray Vaughan once changed out a guitar with a broken string in the middle of a tune for a good guitar without missing a beat. These things make legends.

I’ve seen the first 1-2 minutes on the “30 Years Max RnB” history of the band ( up to at least the mid 90s I believe ) DVD - I didn’t know these extra features were out there. All I know is if I was Scott, I’d be sitting there on Keith’s kit.. - not believing that they saw me raise my hand to begin with- as Pete asked for a “good drummer” never mind trying to show Pete I can do as well as the times I’ve made believe I was Keith at home. Now what ?? Lol - Those guys at work/school will never believe this ! ( no KZbin back in 1973!) I wonder if they had a way to take a group shot and mail to him to show friends. Or did Pete share his brandy!

As a retired musician, lead guitarist, who once had the chance to perform onstage, I can safely say the drummer's post is one of the most difficult. Along with the bass, the drummer sets the foundation of a song, kind of giving signals to the rest of the group where in the song the band already is at certain points in time, and sets most of the accents. Here, a guest musician without proper rehearsal, stands in for a big-name band and its drummer. And beats through to the finish. How difficult can things get for him?
@SteviesVinylCupboard

He did a fantastic job considering. Especially as Moon would play lead drums at time and always switching from syncing with John or Pete. If you look at the IoW 1970 concert its fascinating how Moon constantly looks over to John and Pete switching to and fro supporting, filling, leading all the time. I have a short that's done very well 'Keith plays along with the vocals' which shows how gifted he was in the studio. For Scott to even get through Naked Eye, with its changing tempos, would take any drummer alot pr practice to get up to speed, it shows the guy had alot of heart. Thanks for stopping by cheers 👍

You realize how lucky Pete was to have a rhythm section of Entwistle and Moon? Arguably rocks finest.

Townshend wanted to a times, I’m sure this was one of them. He said he played steady rhythm on guitar because somebody had to. Moon’s constant rolling and crashing was/is attractive to the average listener but to play with it is not always what you want as a musician, even if it’s not late or out of time. Most of the time you want a steady beat that forms a foundation with a solid footing. You never want to have to count beats in your head because the drummer is tommy rolling and crashing all over the place. But I have to admit Moon has always been one of my all time favorite rock drummers to listen to. 🥁
