Good information but more importantly, good talking tempo. I appreciate how you get to the point and there's no or very little fluff, and definitely no "um....uh...." that turns a 15-minute video into 45 minutes of torture that usually ends after the first 2 minutes. (Yes, I'm thinking of specific GMs from other chess channels.)

I suck at chess but really want to improve so it can be hard to understand "standard" openings. So thanks so much for covering all of the lines that black could make in response, even the seemingly obvious ones where black get put in check mate in like 3 moves lol. I really appreciate it!

If 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 exd4 4. Bc4 Nf6 then 5. e5... What if black plays ...d5 attacking or bishop with his stacked pawn. Does white have a viable attack after this move?
@LiveGrenade711 жыл бұрын
To help remember all this I just think if black moves his bishop at all, then you play pawn c3, then remember the bishop momentary sacrifice, the bishop forking the two knights on e5, and if he plays the queen to e7 or knight c6 to just castle.

I play with Qh5 sometimes, but a few moves later. instead of Qh5 on 2 minutes 16, you can also just take the pawn on f7 with the knight right? cause after ...Nxf7, Bxf7-Kxf7 you can also fork the bishop and the king with Qh5+.

I was white and had a Bishop on F7, Knight on G5, and his King went E7. So out of check, and no place for me to bring any more pieces without being blocked or losing a piece. I guess the garden spot would be white Knight on E5, then tons of room to bring the house up the right side wherever the king tries to go..
@amitdashore12 жыл бұрын
what about 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. d4 ed4 4. Bc4 d6.. d6 may prevent e5 while the black can go on developing his king side pieces..?

After 4. ... Bc5 5 c3! is also quite good. This transposes to the italian game after Nf6 but if black play dxc3 which most players do we have Bxf7+ followed by Qd5+ picking up the bisshop, the remaining position is very upleasant for black

Also the Bb4 variation that you discuss, if black plays Bd6 white need not castle and lose time,he can directly go for e5! and then use the theme of queen check on d5 to snarl back the piece...the knight on c6 isnt doing much in the combination since its nullified by white knight on f3! Ok what im basically trying to tell in my 3 comments posted here is that white has much sharper play in this variation,maybe you can cover these in much more detail in your forthcoming videos,thanks!:)

Qe7 hoping to swap queens and cover my king with the knight, but the guy played 10. Nxc3. I spent about 10 minutes trying to work out what the hell I'm missing, finally took his queen. When he started swearing under his breath I finally relaxed...

If the black knight goes to e4, why would I move the bishop to d5 fork both knights? Won't black just take on f2 forking my queen and rook? Then I'll have to move the queen, and I'll lose the rook. I never know how to really deal with this. At low level chess they always fork the queen and rook.
@batfang55837 жыл бұрын
In the variation where white takes the bishop on e7 with the pawn, can't black just take the pawn with the queen? That puts white in check and will force white to move the king, preventing him from castling later on. Bishop to e3 loses the bishop when the pawn captures it, and if white blocks with the queen on e2, then black trades queens forcing the white king to move so he can't castle. Look at about 13 minutes in. Can someone address this? Thanks.

Great gambit! At 14:00, why not take F7 with the Bishop? King takes Bishop, knight checks, followed by Queen takes knight?
@RetroChromebookGamer9 жыл бұрын
no, when the knight checks the king hides on g8, then your queen captures 'useless' (when compared to the value of the bishop you lost) knight on g4, black plays h6 you retreat knight followed by black d6 winning the pawn with tempo on your queen and suddenly you have the stuck center king with zero development while black has two deep centralized passed pawns!!!!

What do I do when I play with friends who make weird moves? For instance, after black takes the pawn on D4 I bring out my bishop and Black just brings out pawn to B5. I don't want to move the bishop twice and I certainly don't want it to be taken. What do I do in a situation like this?
@buzzbloomfield27548 жыл бұрын
This is a great question I hear from a lot of players who are first studying the game. Often when we discuss bookish moves like this, we're discussing "best moves" or "most probable moves" ... A good video will also tell you "what each side is thinking / trying to achieve" in these positions... so if your friend plays a "weird move" you can be like "aha, now I can continue with my plan" such as a center pawn push or rapid development...or you can recognize a severe weakness with his "weird move' which might allow you to perform a known trap.... Basically, when weird stuff happens, two great ideas are to --- take a breather and think "can I continue with my plan" or "is he putting himself in a tactical trap?"

at around 5:20 onwards, you mention the pawn move d5, following the bishop moving to b5. why not then move black's knight to e4 following afterwards? I haven't massively analysed it but at least seems to add strength to both of those moves in that combination. No?

This is a good opening to learn if you are an agressive new player. I personally like the various openings where white pushes d4 (Two Knights Defense, Skotch Game/Gambit, Italian Gambit). However, you should go deaper from time to time, whites fifth move 0-0 (2:33), followed Nf6 links over to Max Lange(witch ofc can be reach from Two Knights Defense as well as Scotish Gambit), whitch is sufficiantly agreassive. A lot of players will play Nf6 since it looks natural (however, Qf6 looks like a good way to equalize for black and still keep it complicated?). 2:45, if you are going to link over to Göring Gambit, why not play c3 as move four and avoid the possibility 3.-- Nf6 (linking over to Two Knights defense)?

13:35 and onward, the by far most played response to e5 is ...d5, and it is not even hinted at in the video. In fact, this can probably be considered the main line of the Scotch Gambit, and deserves no attention at all?
@UGB6WX10 жыл бұрын
I would imagine you could just do Bb5, just like the other cases that black pushes d5. Seems to be losing for black in the same sense of when black replied with Ng4, only now he's purposely allowing a double attack on the c6 knight with Nxd4. 7...Nxe5? Qe2 pin, followed by 9. f4. Even with 8...Qe7 to block, still going to lose something. Wherever the knight may move to safety, say Ng6, just go 10. Nxc6, and there's your free piece (bxc6? Bishop fork rook with Bxc6+). That's just how I see it playing out. You also might just castle like in the video if Ng4 comes after d4 and Bb5, but I'm pretty sure the Nxd4 line suits the position best. Stops black from ever having time or a good reason to do a6
@alachabre10 жыл бұрын
UGB6WX Do a little more research. Like I said, 5...d5 is the main reply to 5.e5. Yes, White then usually plays 6.Bb5, Black plays 6...Ne4 and off we go, we're playing chess. If it were a losing line, it would hardly be the line most players use, grandmasters or otherwise. Don't believe me, do your own research. It's the main line.
@UGB6WX10 жыл бұрын
Ah I see. It does seem not really bad with Ne5 after all. I still like white's position a little more but it's definitely playable. Thanks for suggesting I do some research.

Antero, This video shows what happens when black accepts the offered pawn on d4. This is a totally acceptable move as it lets black take a pretty much free pawn. NOTE the lines played here in this video are all for white, so they don't show the best moves for black. for great examples of how black should play go here www.chessgames.com/perl/chesscollection?cid=1021493
@fuckingSickOfCreepyG7 жыл бұрын
By far the best move for black is exd4. The second best is Nxd4 but after Nxd4 exd4 Qxd4, material is even and white is MUCH better on development. Almost anything else allows d5 which gives white massive advantage. This gambit is quite playable, and in many lines it transposes to a Max Lange attack. Yes, black can equalise but he needs to know more theory than white to do so. Below master level this is a perfectly useful tool.
