Great to see an honest reviews of this whisky. I have just released my review of this and like you I was not blown away. This was the first Macallan I got sulphur on, like an exploded firework.

I have tried 2 bottles on this and found it very delicious. It does need some time to open up, with water, or on the rock is superb!

Way too sweet for me, I opened a 2019 classic cut along side of this and wow, that’s a great dram.

I just got my bottle last weekend and it was $159.99 in Chicago. Bottles don't last long enough with you guys to let them open up. For that price I won't get a 2nd bottle but I would get a GD 18.

I toured the distillery yesterday and this happened to be one of the samples offered for tasting. It’s full blown spice like you say. I struggled to get past it. We also got the 18 Sherry Oak to try and that was absolutely delicious, albeit expensive! The No.6 Edition is going for £95 straight from the distillery. On a bit of tangent, I would say that the visitor experience at Macallan is quite easily the best around and with COVID and restrictions here in Scotland we effectively got a private tour.

When I tried edition 5 it was ok. Went back to it a month or two later, and it was much heavier and definitely improved. I bet the same will be true with edition 6. Try it again in a month.

Great Honest review as always. I’m definitely with Shawn on this one. I didn’t like # 6 at all. 2 and 4 were the highlight of the series for me. Don’t stress about edition 1, it wasn’t very good and the limited amount of bottles is what is driving the price up, not the quality of the Whisky. Mark......Judas Priest my son......the hair !! Stop gambling man, that was some bet you lost on that hair cut. Lol

Thanks you guys for keeping it real and honest with review and scoring. Certain brand names seem to influence review scores irrespective the quality of the juice in the bottle. That is especially true with Macallan. Knowing Macallan's recent track record I expected ed. 6 to be least terms of quality and most in terms of price. Looks like Macallan didn't disappoint me based on your review. I have all previous editions but I will not be paying $140-160+ retailers are charging just to complete my set.

Anytime I add water I let the whiskey rest at least 10 minutes. Right after water is added the drink is very volatile and needs time to settle. Of course that’s hard to do I a video.

Yeah I'm totally fine with just the basic Macallan 12 sherry on my bar. Maybe someday grab an 18 or if I'm lucky enough to find edition 2 or maybe 5 for retail but otherwise just too overpriced for my comfort level. I agree, If you want a 18 year old sherry (proper one), get the Glendronach 2020 pre August Bottle. If you cannot find that, the Glengoyne 21 also royally kicks Mac 18 sherry's butt, for a lower price to boot. No point buying or supporting the likes of Macallan and Dalmore if you are somewhat into whisky .

If we think back when No.1, (A little bit cheaper) when released, most people overlooked it and now they regret it. Edition 3 to 5 hasn't quite gone up yet but they'll slowly catch up as time goes on (No,2 has gone up around 2.5-3 times from initial release). China is already selling this bottle for around $310, and it'll go up from there so if this trend goes on (I live in a community where it's getting snapped up once it hits the shelves). Years from now, the ones who will complain it's not worth it are usually those who didn't get it in release.

Thank your lucky stars you're American, Here in rip-off Canada the editions were $180 and up. This number 6 if it ever gets here is over $200 and that's if you can get it.

It's well known macallan is a marketing master and this series surely proves that. The cost alone would keep me from purchasing this. And with this review I'm sure not going out of my way to try and get it. I enjoy scotch but it seems that the price keeps going up and the quality isn't there. Not a blended fan but cost wise it is becoming the only option for weekly drinking. I'll save what quality singles I have left for very special occasions.

Guys, a Macallan 18 from the 80's and 90's is collectible, it is also very very good. However, these series of Macallan marketing fluff NAS bottles, are tailored and designed and cultivated to be , so called collectible. It is so silly and a waste of money. All of these various NAS-expression "special edition" bottlings is a stupid concept, to sell, at best, mediocre whisky at exorbitant prices. The emperors new clothes, it is nothing special about this. As long as Macallan keep doing this stupid stuff, instead of delivering actual quality whiskies, at sensible prices, in their core-range, I will not buy a Macallan bottle, ever again in my life. I am more interested in bottles and brands with a shred of integrity, full taste, good casks, good prices and there are several of them, no need to dish out for these Macallan circus bottles, or even their core range. Seriously.

The Macallan needs to find itself again... lose the attitude, higher ABV, no chill filtering & half the price would be about right. And an age statement. For $150 nobody should have to apologize for a malt. Seriously, The Macallan has lost their way.
