The year was 1305 and Scottish hero William Wallace would spend his final few moments as a free man on the fields of Robroyston before being ruthlessly captured and betrayed by his own men. He was then taken to London to be made an example of by King Edward I of England who had him hung, drawn, and quartered.
A monument now lies to commemorate the event and pay tribute to the life and legend of one of Scotland's greatest sons.

As an Englishman I find it hard to understand why this is not treasured by the Scottish government, I will certainly visit this year when I plan to do the 500 K, without your video I wouldn’t have known it was there, great video.👏👏

The sad fact is, there is absolutely no way to tie Wallace to that well, or that particular memorial site. All we know is that Wallace was betrayed by Menteith in Rab Rae. We don't know for certain the exact location. What we, today have to remember is, the Georgians, and more so the Victorians romanticised Scottish history to within an inch of its life. That memorial site is no doubt where an old dwelling stood, and from what i've researched, and understand, it was probably the oldest dwelling in place, and so was assumed to be where Wallace slept. In regards the Well, it's obviously a spring, which would've been used by countless folk over the centuries. Did Wallace drink from it? Perhaps, but there's absolutely no way of confirming if he did or not. It is sad that so much of what we learned at school and what we're told of Scottish history, by authorities, such as city, or district councils, is just sheer conjecture, and as i mentioned was the imagination of primarily, the Victorians. I would honestly urge people interested in Scottish history to research and research again, cross-reference everything to try and find some common ground in accounts and reports.

Yes, between 1270-1305AD Wallace was around. The 900 years mentioned towards the end was for the Wallace’s Well and the date given on the noticeboard. Thanks for your comment.

The well is on the main road, just beside a very small burn and across from where the road goes up a steep wee hill. It was always a dodgy walk to it as the road was always busy.
