Not futile at all. It inspires, look at piper Laidlaw VC at the Battle of Loos. His pipes gave the men the courage to attack despite gas, MGs and arty.

My great grandfather was a Pipe Major in The Scots Guards, I have his obituary, he fought in Sudan, in The Boer War, and he lost his life on The Somme aged 54, he also had instructed The Royal Family in Scottish Dancing. Two of his sons were pipers as was my my maternal grandfather. My Paternal grandfather served in The Cameronians. This is not unusual for people of Scottish ancestry. My wife is a Scottish Canadian, we live near London now but I love the pipes. I have a son called Hamish, History lives in all of us. I would like to say I have no enmity against the Germans.

I would've honestly finished the song by cutting it off with a couple of random fading out notes, leaving just the sounds of fighting for the end of the video. That's because (if I remember correctly) nearly all pipers were killed during the battle.

Never before has such a concept given me both such a profound love and proudness to be Scottish, and a horrible stricken chill - realizing that most, if not all these men eventually would hear these chilling bagpipes as their final memory. As too, did the pipers. Since most of them would perish during battle, so I’ve heard. Utmost respect to these bravest of brave souls. Words fail to comprehend, or even capture the horror; or the awesome glory of this war

Two years latter in 1918, a similar gallant and futile battle happened when troops of the US 80th Infantry Division, which came from Virginia and the Carolinas and called themselves the last division of the Confederate Army, first went into battle shouting the Rebel Yell like their Confederate grandfathers had done in the Civil War, only to be mowed down by the Germans.

hate to break it to you but the first minute just sounds like the first few screams replayed again and again...the idea is awesome, but the delivery isnt actually that good. i hear the same screams again and again, not very immersive. there is also no battlefield progresion. it should start with the whistle and some shuffling and marching and squishing sounds of going through no mans land, maybe the odd sniper shot, and THEN after a bit the machine guns open up and hell breaks lose. running, running, a couple of grenades to clear the wire, then the chaos of hand to hand combat ensues. maybe im just holding it to an unrealistic standard because Historyfeels's work is incredible, but this is like 4/10 to me.
