@12:55 I think this is a WWII pillbox, a secured position for artillery to shoot at any enemy paratroopers that came into the area.

I am new to your channel. Fantastic to watch. A very Scottish experience on the mountain. 2 varied weather conditions and 2 experiences on the same hill. Brilliant.

Hi Murray glad Mrs BOOTS and weeee Doggie Boots enjoyed themselves, the climb up in the frosting under foot luv the crunch of it under foot brilliant, the birds you saw and heard amazing, that looked very 😨 scary in the hut looked like war of the worlds 🌎 film ready to walk over the hill and let those razor lights shine , the silence was lovely , the sunshine and blue skies peeking through beautiful just Beautiful 😍, not sure what the bunger is maybe to do with the war not sure ??, people would pay a handsome money to stay in that if it was a ,Air BB , lovely video thankyou to Mrs Boots and weeee Doggie for taking us along with us love Susan xx

It’s a WW2 bunker! If you look down below the A93 on the same line you will see old concrete tank traps too. It’s part of a strategic defence network that extended over to Stonehaven to protect the queen at Balmoral. When you think about it there aren’t many better spots!

That's correct, otherwise known as a pill box. We have loads of them on the north downs in Surrey.

We have just caught up with this video, looks like a great little trip away. Definitely worth the second trip up there! Always find it fascinating how quickly the weather conditions can change in Scotland, you certainly wouldn't have guessed that was the same day! Lexi is adorable and does so well up the mountains, also love her pink tartan coat🐾💕. Another brilliant video, enjoyed as always. ATB Shell and Pete

thanks - This was a few years ago - I think I did some research more recently and think there are tank defences further down the glen too (may be wrong though). That was really neat. When you were sitting in the little shelter it had a War of the Worlds feeling…very eerie with the towers behind you! What a find the pillbox was..well preserved I like the map graphic to show the routes you’ve taken Glad it ended up a nice day for you Take care 🇨🇦❤️

Hope you rang your order of square sausage and egg plus mug of tea through to the catering staff having a lie in after your 1st ascent. Door open food on table, who needs the cafe. (Some good cakes in the cafe so worth a visit).

Definitely one of the best routes up there,I loved it,(when I was able), my favourite route is from the South,(from the bottom of the Devil's Elbow,)great to see again, thank you.👍ps the bunker is just that, put there during the second world war to protect the way from the South, there also used to be tank traps at the other side of the road,at the top of the Devil's Elbow.

I ascended Cairnwell with a broken ankle last year. Only 5 Scottish pounds. A bargain. Not sure I'd stand in that wee wooden hut. That looks like a fair weight of rocks piled up on the roof.

Hello from Washington State. I found your videos a couple of weeks ago and enjoy them quite a bit. One thing: You've mentioned problems with a knee in some of them and I might suggest using fish oil for pain and inflammation. I have bad problems with BOTH of mine and taking 600mg in the morning, before I get going with the day, and another 300 to 600mg at night has really helped me and might help you as well. It is a vitamin supplement, so it can't do you any harm unlike Ibuprofen, which is really bad on the kidneys. Just thought I might pass this on to you and hope it helps. Looking forward to more nice videos to come.

The pillbox is part of The Cowie Line of strategic defenses, a stop line built to slow a German invasion from Norway. Scotland’s east coast is littered with evidence of the physical barriers built during WW2.
