Similar in feel to his oboe concerto (1946) alas sadly neglected. Thanks for posting this. I found it most enjoyable.

Wo! 384 views, three comments and one of them dismissive. What do you have to do to impress people? I love everything Scott ever did. Ceaselessly inventive and compelling. And beautiful. This is no exception.

Poetic music in days Stockhausen, Boulez, Messiaen were casting their shadows everywhere. Scott must have felt like living in an alien world. The slower parts of this Symphony seem to reflect that.

That opening E7#9 chord! Lush.

I've been exploring Scott's music on KZbin. There are some lovely piano pieces, and I was very taken with the beautiful Early One Morning. How disappointing that this symphony is so uninteresting. Music that is diffuse and meandering, and except for the scherzo, rather limp.

I tend to agree. I was a big fan of Scott, Piano Concerto No.1, Early One Morning, Aubade, La Belle Sand Merci, mainly his mid period works. I find his later works formless and unsatisfying.
