This is not a publicity stunt, this is who Scott Dixon is, very friendly and will go out of his way to make the kids feel special, welcomed, and enjoy their time around him! My youngest son met him back in 2012 at a Karting event and when Scott found out that my son was born the year he won his first Indy 500 he went out of his way to talk to him longer, sign whatever he had for him and my other kids, too! Thank you Scott for being a great 'ambassador' for IndyCar Racing!

After the loss of Dan Wheldon, the Dixons temporarily moved to St Petersburg to help Dan's wife and kids pick up the pieces and get through that time. They're just good people. It doesn't surprise me that Scott would do something like this, because like you said, this is who he is. A lot of other racers could learn from him about how to treat the fans.

Wow, I didn't know that but then, I am not surprised either. Scott and Emma are very good people and a huge plus for the series.

I had pleasure of watching Scott from early age, he was 13 at time driving in Nissan Sentra series , here in NZ. BayPark Raceway Mount Maunganui.. He has always been a genuine sincere person ,how he has never been voted sports person of year here is beyond me! Good luck for rest of season Scott, Kia kaha from NZ 😀

As an F1 fan, this was so touching...let's be honest I knew about Will Power a bit, heard about Dixon and Kanaan, I was of that Alonso bandwagon but I can justify myself as the year I started watching F1 he was world champion and I was a kid... But when I see Dixon being so passionate and so kind to visit a kind little girl who sent him a letter..this is extraordinary and I get why people like Indycar for not just the racing...this was great to see and great work from Indycar to have made this possible.

jerryl davis Cute as a button! So lovely of IndyCar and Dixon To do that. She'd have been thrilled with a signed photo. Perhaps it's good for the drivers to be reminded that the fans take everything seriously, and whether we're a big fan of an individual or not, we *all* want them home safe and sound. I started watching F1 in the dark days and have seen far too many fatal accidents in all forms of motorsport. I'm a petrolhead grandma and when my eldest son left home I thought I'd lost my bike racing pal. We'd had "mum and son bonding sessions" (our nickname for getting out of housework and watching hours of Moto GP and Superbikes, and the odd car race - more my thing than his). Four years ago in August I became gran to a beautiful baby girl. For the last two years, if she's over during any type of racing, she demands to come onto my bed and watch it with me. She loves it, especially when she's on my lap and we move around in time to the vehicles and make tyre and brake squealing noises. Not quite the same as watching with my then teenager, but I've brought another over to the dark side LOL. If you get the chance, watch British Superbikes and look at the crowd. A large proportion are female and there are getting to be more and more female engineers in bikes and cars. You may be surprised by how many girls are into engines!

This is the kind of stuff that has lasting effects... Lucy will be a fan of Scott Dixon and Indycar for LIFE... this won't be forgotten and will be passed down to her kids years from now. I know I haven't followed as closely as I used to (being a Father and provider will do that), but I remember the time spent by some MLB, NFL and NHL players when I was growing up doing similiar things (Sorry NBA, but you guys abandoned us in the late 70's before I started following).. and I will always remember those moments... oh those players have long left the sport (a couple in the NFL HOF)... but the memories outlive them often!

Long time F1 fan here. I have to agree, F1 has been a very closed environment under Bernie Ecclestone; his approach was outdated and felt elitist. Now that Liberty Media acquired it, let's hope the sport opens up on many fronts and appeals to both, long time and new fans. Indycar has a fantastic PR, Americans are great at that, and hopefully Liberty Media will improve PR for F1
@hossahunter227 жыл бұрын
Rodrigo Fernández I hope so too. I'm very excited to see what all they do improve everything for the fans.
@JCDenton20007 жыл бұрын
Rodrigo Fernández Couldn't agree more. One problem I also noticed however is that many European F1 fans are huge elitists that insult anything remotely American. That kind of toxicity needs to be driven out of the fanbase.

This is so adorable. Dixie is one of my favorite drivers -- and Emma is one of my favorite people on Twitter ;) -- and we were at the 500 when his car went airborne (we were in B Stand, between the polesitter's pitbox and Turn 1, so we saw Howard make contact with the wall, but couldn't really see contact with Dixon... we sure saw Scott flying up, though). I'm not exaggerating here: we thought he was dead. My husband even said, at that moment, "I think we just saw someone die." I was shaking like a leaf, trying to breathe... everyone else was standing up, but I had to sit down... and then I cried when he got out of the car right away. Thank you IndyCar!!! THANK YOU DAN WHELDON.

I think that is what is awesome about IndyCar. The drivers aren't on some pedestal, they are just average people with above average talent behind the wheel. I remember back when Dan Wheldon was around, I'm not sure I ever saw him out on the pit lane where he wasn't interacting with fans. I remember meeting Scott Dixon after the race, the year he won. Literally, the man had just won the Indy 500 an hour or so earlier, and he was just as down to earth as ever.

Great ending to an otherwise horrific crash that thankfully did end in tragedy. Dixon definitely earned a fan for life in that sweet little girl. There are quite a few good men (in terms of character) in Indycar, which is refreshing to see after getting sick of the offensive behavior of NFL, NBA and even NCAA football and basketball players. Glad to see there are still some true gentlemen in sports. Simon Pagenaud probably deserves the biggest "nice guy" award, but good character seems to be a common trait of all the IndyCar guys......and then there's Santino Ferrucci who hopefully watches, learns, and emulates his peers.

I would bet a half a nickel that among major sports leagues, Indycar has the most friendly, effective, and direct engagement with the fans by far. Our daughter who is now 18 had similar experiences (but not a driver coming to the house). When Danica was an Indycar driver, my then 7 year old daughter went up to her during an autograph session and told her that she was one of her favorites. Danica came around the table, hugged her, spent SEVERAL minutes talking and encouraging her to peruse her dreams, and signed the shirt she was wearing. A large rumble of thunder shook the building (at RIR) and Danica grabbed my daughter and said that thunder scared her and asked my daughter if she would help her be brave. She had an even longer conversation with Milka Dunno one year (Yes ....I know ..... I know). Milka talked her about her multiple masters degrees (I remember that nautical engineering was one ot them) and her pursuit of excellence in everything she attempts ... busting any barriers that stand in her way.. In fact, even I saw Milka in a totally different light. Although she was indeed a far less than stellar driver, she had the passion and guts to try her very best to succeed. She also had A very pleasant encounter with DIxie the next race after he won the 500. Of all the drivers that my daughter encountered, it was Casteoneves (at an autograph table) and Marco (in the paddock) who didn't who didn't speak or even acknowledge her. Both me and my daughter knew that both of these encounters were exceptions and not the norm for either. In addition to having someone "refresh" his makeup (during the dancing with stars popularity)', Castroneves was having a Whisper-level, mildly heated conversation with the driver who was seated next to him at the autograph tables ... none other than Dixie. Marco was getting off of his scooter with his ready-to-race serious game face on.
