First thing, people are saying the fans ran Cal off, not true. He could have stayed and chose to leave. Why, because he knew the tires were falling off. Every team has crazy fans, maybe we have a few more, but if you are a coach you ignore it. Fans are important but the crazy ones you ignore. As a life long UK fan, I don't expect a chip every year. What I would like is a winning season, Winning the SEC regular season or tourney or haveing a shot to each year and being competitive in the NCAA tourney. UK except for a fluke year should be able to get to a Sweet 16, Elite 8 or final four even, with all the talent we have had. With all that said. I say give Mark Pope a shot. He played for UK, the fans would love him, he has proven he can coach and recruit. Give him a 4 year contract with an extension if he wins, At this point the need to do something in a hurry, or we won't have a player left except for Travis Perry, I think he stays no matter what.

It's not going to be about money with Hurley. He's a Jersey guy through and through, and his wife doesn't want to move to the South and not have any privacy for their family. If you can win championships where you're at, why take a chance on going to a place where you'll either become a Rockstar or a groupie?

Save half the annual salary and pick someone that has little coaching experience but is smart, has work ethic, super faithful to the school has won two national championships and can get Reed to come back next season. Jeff Sheppard !! I bet he’d do a great job coaching, but would need some help recruiting. He’d have a second pair of eyes and ears in his wife who will be in 100% helping this work. With two KY guards and an exUK star coaching, the fan base will be behind this team 110%. Whether he pans out as well as desired or not, the ticket sales will be through the roof. I hate this fanbase as a former UK fan , first you run Cal outta town and say “I’m tired of Cal and his Pros “ and in 2020 they do a fundraiser for NIL in Lexington and they raised a whole 55k which is absolutely embarrassing for a state that has 80k millionaires and most of those live in Lexington and you wonder why we do horribly in the portal and then complain about Cal and his one and dones it sounds like that’s the only way he could get guys in the door was the promise of the NBA , so no NIL money no new basketball facilities in over 10 yrs and you wonder why we get results like St. Peter and Oakland we were lucky to even be in the tournament, then UK goes to interview and talk to a coach and our fans start calling the restaurant where he’s eating bothering him , I’m so over this madness and dealing with the UK krazies , until Mitch retires or is ran outta town also I won’t buy another ticket or a piece of anything with UK on it . Whoever UK hires I hope the insane fanbase is happy with it and it’s what they deserve but I promise u this it won’t take them long to realize it’s the worst mistake they ever made.

Cal was done and has been for a while at Kentucky. He is a recruiter and salesman but not a good coach. He said himself he really wasn't willing to adapt. So between the worst season in UK history and the 2 worst losses in UK history and the talent that hasn't won titles was to much. I wish him the best and will root for him when he us not playing us but it was done.

There isnt much traction with Danny Hurley, its not happening. Billy Donovan you need to wait till after the play in to even talk to the guy, but still my go to pick. Rick Pitino, honestly I would make the call, only because he can coach his ass off, it would piss off coach cal. Pitino is kind of the hire you make, to play mind games with Cal. IF we arent getting any 3 of these guys... Shaka Smart, Todd Golden, Tommy Lloyd, Mike Budenholzer, T.J. Otzelberger, Lamont Paris, Mark Pope, Richard Pitino. Prob my list in that order with potentially coach bud a bit higher because he is better with x's and o's than the 3 guys ahead of him. so those 4 are kind of the same level imo. Chris Beard is a no go, Bruce Pearl is a no go. Thats pretty much it. Like it depends on what we are going for, if we want one of the younger guys to marinate, we hire an older coach like Pitino as a stop gap for someone like Todd Golden, but that can backfire like it did back in the day with Billy D.
