@Andrew S. Wait. What paragraph of any agreement stated that Ukraine could not join NATO? When was such an agreement ratified by the lawmakers of Ukraine? Waiting… Oh, that’s right. It wasn’t. Russia didn’t need any assurances. They were the puppet masters. Now, they’re not and Putin is throwing a hissy fit about it. There’s no justification for this invasion. None. Even though like the Bush Administration, the reason given for the attack has changed about six times.

Not sure if it was already noted here but the Pershing missile units in Germany Scott Ritter referred was under the 41st Field Artillery. I had served with a Pershing battalion during the late 70s. My kaserne was about a 45 minute drive east of Stuttgart. And Scott is right, the very first weapons system Gorbachev wanted deactivated on the US part was the Pershing system. EDITOR'S NOTE: I gave Scott Ritter another listen. Maybe I misheard him the first time but he is correct. Pershing units -- 1/41, 1/81, 3/84 and the 579th -- fell under the 56th FA umbrella. Well heck, I was a 1970s soldier so it's been awhile lol.

The Pershing II was what really terrified the Russians. The speed and accuracy were such that Soviet command & control would be dead before they knew they were under attack. The P2 deployment was in response to the Soviet deployment of the SS-20/RSD-10.

Patrick Goetz
Patrick Goetz 4 ай бұрын
@Heisenberg 1271 Because I was an adult during the George W. Bush administration and well remember the controversy over placing ICBMs in Poland over Russia's wishes. The US has been a treaty violator, most recently when Trump unilaterally exited the Iran Nuclear deal. The same Shrub Bush administration started a wholly unjustified and illegal war in Iraq which mostly empowered Iran and ISIS and ended up costing the US trillions of dollars. Even Bush now admits that this was terrible mistake he let himself get talked in to. That said, two wrongs don't make a right and nothing the neocons of the Bush administration did justify Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The neocons are/were scumbags and so is the Kremlin.
Doruk Baglan
Doruk Baglan 4 ай бұрын
@Patrick Goetz Hi Patrick, thanks for your valuable input. Yeah, its a shame that countries violate treaties. What do you think about the fact that German ex-chancellor Merkel recently said they brokered the Minsk agreement to buy time for Ukraine to get ready for conflict with Russia?
Patrick Goetz
Patrick Goetz 3 ай бұрын
@Doruk Baglan sounds possible? I can't speak to the factual accuracy; but anyone who knows about the Budapest Memorandum should be outraged. In fact, Russia recently targeted Ukrainian civilian infrastructure (killing only civilians) with missiles they likely got from Ukraine in exchange for solemnly swearing to protect Ukraine from invasion!

An interesring point of view. But I would like to ask him a few questions: Did he take in account the cost of the whole thing for Russia? Most people do the mistake of focusing on the sanctions. What most people is completely ignoring is the mass exodus, the brain drain, the isolation ( economic, political and even social) and the destruction of a vast chunk of Russia conventional forces - forces Russia cannot replace with something equivalent or better anytime soon. Same thing for its technological and social development. To give you an idea: Russia didn't just lose 140.000 soldiers, it lost well over 1.000.000 people who escaped to dodge the draft. Among those, there were many engineers, IT experts and people with skills and a higher education. That in the middle of a demographic crisis. Considering that Russia should have a birth rate of 2.1 while it has only 1.2 to solve the crisis, we can assume that it lost anything from 2.8 to over 3.000.000 citizens in only 1 year. And that doesn't even take in consideration the injured (psychologically or phisically). Add that convicted criminals hired by Wagner with military skill and PTSD are getting home to their normal lives, the fact that the Russians are running this war on social security funds, they are decades of development behind and cannot get essential Western tech. You get a 2-3rd world country with not chance to keep the pace with the rest of the World. And here is the thing: Even if it would reach the point it can extort a negotiation and a "peace", the sanctions can't just be lifted immediately after that - it will take decades to do that. And for each sanction removed, it will be possible to blackmail it - it will have to make concessions, very expensive and likely humiliating concessions. Last, but not the least: They will be forever know as Nazis due to the fact what what they did in Ukraine closely resembles what Hitler did in Austria in 1939. Putin is being seen as a second Hitler in Europe by most people and the relations are not going to change at least as long as he stays in power. The sanctions alone are nothing compared to all of that. And "having diesel" will not solve nothing of that.
Chris Burke
Chris Burke 29 күн бұрын
Those are all great points. The massive loss of people who have left Russia, and the professional knowledge that left with them, will ultimately be the death knell of Russia - moreso than the sanctions will be.

Well it's almost five months after Scott's interview and let's take a look at what has happened since. Kherson has been retaken but subject to regular bombardment. What did Scott say about that happening? It's winter and spring is fast approaching. It's tough to move around but I suspect the Ukrainians will attempt to cut off the land bridge to Crimea. Currently, various Crimean cities once out of reach of Ukrainian heavy munitions are being hit. The Crimean rail bridge is currently not able to handle the transportation of military hardware the ruzzians need to defend Crimea. Ukrainians are finding the munitions that hitting deeper and deeper behind the front lines. You also have to ask, do the ruzzians have the means to defend Crimea and the entire eastern front? It appears ruzzia's Wagner Group is petering out around Bakhmut and will not be able to surround let alone take it even with the help of ruzzian troops. Both ruzzia and Ukraine are having problems supplying their militaries on the eastern front, but I don't think the US will run away from its commitments just yet and ruzzia will struggle rearming with weapons that matter. Bottom line is that Crimea is vulnerable and if it goes Putin's name in the Kremlin will be mud. I might also add that demographically this is ruzzia's last war after this period in time it will not have the male population to go to war. You can go on and on about the other difficulties the ruzzians are having economically but don't have the time to talk about it. The ruzzian federation is going to look a lot differently after the Ukrainians take them down a notch.

I often karaoke the song "Imagine", because I feel that each of us only have one life to live, and so we should set aside our ideologies and embrace our differences and sing our ways to our graves. To know that people are planning for warfare on the daily basis is sad... 1 billion humans have been killed by warfare... how many more before we stop? Well, look like we're ready for China... it's ridiculous.

“Imagine” is one of the single most horrible and empty songs ever penned. If one is capable of actually considering what the lyrical substance of the song is, I don’t see how one could come to any other conclusion. Childish fantasy should be left to children.

3 months after this interview, Kherson has been retaken, Wagner group is losing up to 800 “soldiers” a day in their pathetic, vain attempt to take Bahkmut. NATO shows absolutely no sign of slowing down with even Germany stepping up with Leopard 2 tanks. While Ritter is knowledgeable, in just 3 months, it’s clear just how dead wrong he was and that he is the one that’s dreaming. The “de-nazification” is just another example of Russia’s willingness to reach for any lame excuse for attacking a sovereign nation. If you ever doubt Russia is a criminal war mongering state, just look up Wars Involving Russia in Wikipedia and you’ll see the real Russia over the last 500 years.

Hey guys, love the channel I respect you both. Scott, I wanted to say “ Semper Fi” my brother, devil dog. I got to say I don’t really agree with you as far as the outcome of Ukraine quite frankly, as long as they’re supplied, I don’t see Russia beating them. Russia is struggling way more than anybody expected them to and they will continue to struggle it’s only getting worse not to mention Ukrainians do you have someone to fight for their fighting for their freedom let’s face it I mean you could argue all you want about the past, and how Ukrainians and Russians are similar and where they started from centuries ago, but still has a different country, and they are fighting to get their country and their land, and their borders back from the Russians so to say that they have nothing really to fight for I mean that makes no sense. Does the obviously do so I don’t know I realize that there’s a lot of spin and if you listen to the wrong places far as media sources they’re going to make it sound like everything is good for Ukraine when it’s not, but I know Russia is suffering as much probably more than Ukraine and Ukrainians have made some amazing games and it is true that they kicked out the Russians or they initially had taken territory and so they’ve lost a lot what they gained and that’s got to have some impact so I just I don’t agree. I think it’s much more complex.

Well Ukraine shouldn't lose as they are being supplied by what was believed to the second biggest, and second strongest Armed forces in the world, (prior to the start of this war that is) Russia. It has donated more equipment (Tanks, AFVs, APCs, ammunition, shells, guns and air defence) than most other countries combined. Ukraine has kitted out a whole Tank Btn with tanks captured in the Kharkiv offensive. Well done Russia!

At the end of the interview Ritter essentially says the following: Ukraine needs to give Russia whatever territory it wants and in exchange Russia won't destroy it. Ukraine doesn't deserve to keep large swaths of its sovereign territory because it had the temerity not to immediately give up other parts of its sovereign territory. If Russia proves to be militarily stronger than Ukraine then Ukraine loses the right to participate in international relations. This is the most blatantly militaristic and imperialist viewpoint you could express, and yet Ritter has become the darling of the anti-war "left." What a sad joke.

One side is BEGGING for money and weapons, the latter which they have little chance of maintaining and repairing. Vs another side that is the biggest nation in the world , self sufficient in cheap endless energy , food and own weapons production.

It is the grandiose glue that holds conspiracies, cults and other fringe lunatic groups together.

I wish Mr Ritter and COL MacGregor (they seem to be the only opposition, even though main stream isn't looking for that right now) could debate some of Team Ukraine. Not all TU are bad people in the pockets of Raytheon etc... Of course Miley will never jeopardize his future big pay out, but I think there are some decent folks. McMaster for example. I'd love to hear these three just talk for awhile and get all sides at once...

Come on, the west was never going to give any credence to Zelensky's call for a preemptive nuclear strike on Russia. Of course. From the beginning it has been correctly acknowledged - at the very least - as a defense effort that could not exist without vast support from very rich countries. And possibly a meticulously planned proxy war, even if Russia started it. The question of offense and defense becomes blurry as always. If there is a preexisting orchestrated effort to weaken Russia, then Putin's offense becomes a pretext. A way to pass off offense as defense.
