This video explores The 1745 Jacobite Uprising with reference to Sir Walter Scott's celebrated novel, Waverley. It goes into the events leading up to the legendary rebellion led by Bonnie Prince Charlie, the Jacobite Prince of Wales. This is part of a larger series on the Jacobites (supporters of the right of James II and his descendants to succeed to the thrones of England, Scotland and Ireland). It compares Scott's novel to Don Quixote.

How much is the depiction of Bonnie Prince Charlie in Outlander to do with no-one else being allowed to outshine the fictional Jamie Fraser, or the actor who plays him? Is Charles Edward Stuart depicted similarly in the book? I confess, I only read the first one.

I suppose; he is the bodice-ripper hero. But the character of Prince Charles should be the sun at the centre in my view

02:13 You did it! You found a way to link the 'Knight of the Sorrowful Countenance' to _Jacobite culture_ . To see the extra-ordinary in the ordinary can be considered as the definition of: _epiphany_ . (Nikos Kazantzakis' imagination of the moment at the Jordan - loathed by petty Western 'conservatives', the _Pharisees of our time_ and cherrished in cathartic awe by the _'reactionary'_ soul) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmGsg3-gftSgj6s As a political sidenote: being _replacable by foreigners_ and ending up in _military service against their kin_ is the trademark of 'Britannia Incorporated' - as liberal Jewish historian Simon Schama characterized Whiggish Britain on his BBC series. The BBC did offer _some_ critical investigation into the utter miscalculations by the Bank of England, regarding immigration - but is now quite firmly marching in lockstep towards 'progress', varying their headlines from 'Putin!' to 'Trump!' in a perpetual cycle of _indoctrination_ .
