Amazing. It's worth mentioning that in Baroque music, the pedals often play simple sustained notes, but in this transcription of a classical period work, they do pretty complex melody lines. Coupled with the occasional visits to the swell pedal... how he manages to do it flawlessly without ever looking down is beyond me.
@cygil1 Жыл бұрын
It's actually much easier to locate the pedals without looking than the keys, they are much much larger and the difference between adjacent noted is obvious with practice. The real trick is not slipping on the bench (or worse yet, off the bench )
@DavidSmith-sb2ix4 жыл бұрын
The organ is a one person orchestra and almost any piece of music sounds great on it. I've even experimented with playing a piece or two by Metallica on the organ. I just put Und Nichts Anderes Zählt instead of And Nothing Else Matters in the church bulletin. I got caught. One lady recognized it but she loved it.

This is an interesting design where the console is centered in the choir loft. This shows that they understood that having them together allows the organist to stay in time with the choir and hear what they're hearing to blend much better. Imagine what it's like when the console os separated from the choir in a large venue and the echo delay between the ranks, the organist's ear and the choir's ears. Oof.

I was very lucky to go to school at Ellesmere College during the 1980s, and learnt to play the organ on this magnificent instrument plus the Schulze organ in the school’s main hall (known as “Big School”). Yes, the slight time delay was an issue given where the console is positioned. Nevertheless, I have some terrific memories of playing for the school. The annual Christmas carol service was a particular highlight - nothing like the entire school singing “O come all ye faithful” in full voice with the organ going at full tilt. Makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck!
