you used to be able to meme with spiked armor paired with leather 3 (full prot 3 leather) and expert seal, since you end up with 18 total levels of prot and about as tough as full diamond (you can make a set of prot books for iron pants which is then about the same as full diamond plus tarn). (and then you could combine book of thoth which has prot 3 with the remaining leather pieces for being as tough as full diamond with 7/10 levels of prot depending if you went with the iron pants) it's so bad with diamond armor though, full diamond takes half the damage as full diamond with the chestplate swapped out for diamond. Spiked armor with full prot 3 leather is only barely better than full prot 1 iron. (you take like just under 6% less damage in melee, and take slightly more with bow assuming apprentice helmet while dealing thorns) spiked armor with full iron otherwise (and apprentice helmet) takes very similar damage to full iron (you take) Spiked armor only really works if you decide to just focus on prot, but full diamond is king for a reason. (full iron needs 15 levels of prot to replicate, diamond needs 20)

@@mfbond13 As far as I know about armor enchants protection maxes out at level 20, blocking 80% of damage- same as with full diamond armor. Armor works like this: Every half an armor bar, you take 4% less damage (Full iron takes 60% less damage while full Diamond takes 80% less, full iron takes 40% while diamond takes 20%, full diamond takes half the damage full iron does.) Single half-armor bars matter the more armor you have (leather boots don't do anything, but three quarters with a chest plate take 20% more damage relative to full diamond assuming equal enchants). One level of protection is the same as one half armor bar in terms of protection, and damage is calculated multiplicatively. (Full iron would take 40% damage, protection 3 on all pieces (12 levels total) would block 48% of the 40, taking 52% of 40% (20.8% damage) which is almost as good as full clean diamond.) This is assuming protection on hypixel works the straightforward way post 1.9 does it, otherwise protection is a lot more wank and also RNG (the Enchantment Protection Factor (EPF) lines up kinda weirdly with level although it's higher in most cases and you also dice roll every time you get hit for how effective the enchantment on your armor even is)
