About targeting inner quads, a redditor posted this to a fitness subreddit when asked about it: "It is kind of hard to specifically say why something can't/ doesn't happen in your body. But basically, they (all 4 muscles making the quads, but it is easiest to picture vastus lateralis and vastus medalis which are outer and inner quads respectively) are all innervated my the same nerve. So when they activate, that nerve is signaling the muscles to contract. But the nerve can't selectively activate, it send the signal to all of the quads. It is like an electric line delivering charge. The 1 line splits into little branches that innervate all of the muscles that signal them to contract. But those branches are still just extensions of the 1 electric line. Once the charge starts going it is delivered to every branch equally. My suspicion is that certain positions make one side or the other look bigger, like the last part of my previous post. But the studies done that measure electrical charge say that everything is equal. My opinion is, just keep working your quads, the inner will develop along with the rest." www.reddit.com/r/fitness30plus/comments/57oq89/%D0%BD%D0%BEw_d%D0%BE_%D1%96_t%D0%B0rg%D0%B5t_%D1%96nn%D0%B5r_qu%D0%B0ds/d8xotba/?context=3&st=IW9BGIS5&sh=7cf662f3

Good to see you not telling us to get rid of one exercise and strictly going with just leg press or just squats. I don't have a press machine at home (I turned the master bedroom of my apartment into a home gym), but I do have a smith machine. What are your thoughts on smith machine leg presses? I notice that when I do them, once my knees tuck down far enough, my pelvis will actually raise up off the floor because of the tilt that happens, so I have no idea if that's a good thing or a bad thing and figured I'd ask you. Thanks man!

Hey Scott I'm 5 and a half and I'm short. Does milk make me grow?
@christosswc8 жыл бұрын
No it won't. Milk has large amounts of vitamin A & D as well as a LOT of calcium which are necessary for the development of new organisms. Once the development of your bones ceases, these nutrient are way in excess of what your body needs and too much calcium ain't good. Milk is still a good source of important nutrients but at the later stages of their lives people would do well to reduce milk consumption to more reasonable levels and switch to foods that better suit their needs. That's why I feel the "1 gallon a day" of milk principle is completely stupid unless one is looking to get kidney stones from the excess calcium.

You should not always go ass to grass. If your mobility doesn't allow you to go ass to grass, you could injure your lower back. You should stop before butt wink. Also putting your legs too low on the leg press will put unnecessary pressure on your knee tendons which can lead to knee injuries... smh

Hey Scott, I have been struggling with any kind of squats or deadlifts because of a lumbar fusion. So although you're suggesting not to take out squats for the regular guy, I really don't have a choice. I do the leg presses for sure. I may have to do twice the amount of lifting to replace squats, but I'm okay with it as long as I'm not wasting time on unnecessary lifts. Long setup for question. What lifts should a person with a bad back do for legs, avoiding any compound lifts? I can't get answers from most people. I'm just looking for direction here. I know I still need to talk with my doctors, who told me not to deadlift or squat, but I want to know the right lifts to discuss with them.

I think adequate mobility in the calves is important to quadricep growth as well. If you don't have good calf mobility you are forced to put your feet up higher on the leg press to get good depth which takes a lot of the quads out, as well as being forced to use more hips on the squat. This is what I have noticed for myself, anyways.
@carlosgonzalezbarco40267 жыл бұрын

Got a nice little Teardrop building, got a nice little bit of out sweep and inner curve on my quads. Now I can't go too deep when I go heavy more like a quarter rep when squatting as I haven't got a partner I still feel a lot of activity in the quads when I do this Should I stop going heavy and just concentrate on light weight Second question reading up about weightlifting shoes especially when doing squats, can't afford to buy them but read putting your feet on a weight or a board to raise your heels it's just as effective Should I avoid this technique

I used to watch a lot of your videos from several years ago around 2008/2009 when I was in high school when I first started lifting. The last time I remember watching your videos was like 4 years ago I just found this video and I literally never remember you having this accent. I don't know if you moved somewhere and it changed but I remember you pronounced everything perfectly, in my opinion. I'm sorry I have to rewatch the video because I remember you always had great knowledge but I am so distracted by that accent that I know I missed key points.

I took the time to watch it and I'm really glad you feel much more open and free to be yourself and speak more naturally in your actual voice. I know the boston accent in movies are often times poorly imitated and can confuse the ignorant so I don't doubt the validity of yours. I apologize for not only my curiosity but the many other people who probably weren't sure and the trolls who like to bother. I know it can get old. Thank you for replying and updating me, I honestly did not expect it but I appreciate your work and I'm excited to catch up on the content I missed. You are honestly one of the few channels I feel I can reliably trust as a natural lifter. I'm so glad that you are still around and this video came up in my recommended list. You deserve your success for the work that you've put in and I wish you much more success in all your endeavors. God bless you Scott Herman keep doing your thing.

hey I have a question about a subject that I don't think has been addressed by any of the fitness channels yet. So say you have someone who has reached a point where they are happy with their body and they want to maintain it without having to bust their ass at the gym 4-5-6 times a week. is there an easy way to maintain muscle mass? obviously you'd still have to do some sort of training otherwise you'd lose it, but what kind? and how much?

Do deadlifts build quads more or hamstrings as you're not squatting to parallel when picking up the weight so I assume that's more quad dominance? Ditch the barbell squats (a highly technical, and risky exercise). Just do leg press and glute ham raises. That's really all you need for big, well-developed legs.
