Football is a global game and some of the most important people responsible for spreading it came from Scotland, so in this video I'll be looking at how Scottish people gave the world its favourite sport.

Colin Bain Calder (Dingwall, Scotland, United Kingdom; 16 April 160-Rosario, Argentina ; 25 January 1907) was one of the founding members and the first president of Club Atlético Rosario Central, current champions of Argentina.

I believe Independiente have a Scottish founder as well. Argentina is full of Scottish influence.

@@CallumBlyth No. Independiente was founded by a group of clerks in the Centre of Buenos Aires. Central instead was founded by Scottish (and other British) in Av. Alberdi 200 bis, in the North of Rosario. 24th December 1889.

ORIGINS At the end of 1880, a group of workers of the Ferrocarril Central Argentino (Argentinean Central Railway) used to meet frequently after work to play rudimentary football in the vacant lots located near the beginning of the current Avenida Alberdi, in the northern area of Rosario. On Christmas Eve 1889, about seventy people gathered in a defunct bar at 23 bis Avenida Alberdi with the intention of creating a football club. It was then when an Englishman named Thomas Mutton, formally proposed the creation of that project, suggesting the name of Central Argentine Railway Athletic Club. The attendees gave their approval, and elected as president of the institution the most vehement of the speakers: the Scotsman Colin Bain Calder. It was the birth of the first forerunner of what would later, in 1903, become Rosario Central. The peculiarity of the new club was that only Railway employees could be members.

That was, as usual, enlightening. In particular, the foundation of Arsenal and Sevilla (my Spanish team courtesy of Championship Manager in the 90's). La Liga, the Championship Manager league in which I took Sevilla to 6 European Cup wins before the game "Allowed" Sevilla to win La Liga. A game more unfair than the real Spanish league. And that takes some doing. 😊❤😊

@callumblyth3741 It was an utter nonsense on the games part. Getting past Real and Barça was ridiculous. After the 8th season I started re-playing those games until I won. Sometimes it took 20 to 40 attempts. The game was hard coded to ensure one of these two won La Liga. I could get until 70% of the way through the season. I would have "Lost" two games, and have a huge positive goal difference overall. Then for the final 30% of the season I would start drawing game after game whilst those two would suddenly win every single game.

You have left out the oldest Spanish football club, Recreativo de Huelva . The Rio Tinto mining company was set up about 80 km to the north, hence british workers. I've been there and it's really weird to see british victorian houses in Andalucia, in both the city of Huelva and in the Rio Tinto village. Wikipedia says "Two Scots, Alexander Mackay and Robert Russell Ross, overseas workers at the Rio Tinto mines, founded Huelva Recreation Club to provide their employees with physical recreation. " I 've also heard about Millwall FC being set up by Scottish workers, but we'll keep quiet about that one🤣 I should have listened right to the end of the video😟
