Excellent. I was there many years ago - very difficult terrain and a strange place to fight a battle.

Did you climb the mountain Mike?

@@leagueofaugsburg9036 No I only walked a little way up from the road. I was only passing through on the road to Skye. But really nice to see your video.

You should! It is in the middle of a landscape overload... nothing quite like the Western Highlands!

Nice vid, Barry terrain looks pretty daunting 😁

A compromise would definitely be the order of the day on the tabletop I think!

A very interesting tour Barry! It seems incredible that a battle could have been fought in such difficult terrain. Beautiful location though.

Thanks! It had always confused me hence the walk around. I Just didn't get it until I stood on the ground, then.. it clicked!

Great video Barry! I would be interested in a follow up video on this. Having travelled the field how you would re-fight it using say Donnybrook, make up forces you would use and terrain etc. Could make for a great mini series if you have the time.

thanks Paul. I was twisting my own brain as I walked the field thinking about how to transfer it to the table top. Even creating scenery where figures did not topple over because of the steep gradients would be a challenge.

An excellent battlefield tour. 👍 I have visited a few time but I found it very difficult to orientate myself and your info graphics were very helpful. It must have been a very confusing battlefield because you quickly loose sight of higher ground as you approach the slopes and it is very ‘up and down’ terrain. A beautiful spot though. I can imagine that one lucky mortar shot, up on to the Jacobite position, when the defenders couldn’t even see the mortar and crew, could have been very disconcerting.

Yes, I agree. If the cleggs hadn't been so vicious I would have reached than flat top on the north spur. Wee buggers!

I can remember being chased around the dunes on Luskentyre beach on Harris by a squadron of the blighters! I guess it was too early in the year for midges ?

Well, I am building the BLB forces for this battle, and am almost ready to start on the terrain....not sure how to represent those slopes....maybe as terraces to fit the stands of infantry? I did walk the battlefield as well, back in 2010 I believe.....so long ago.

Stepping it would be the most practical idea but visually that is a compromise.

It was a good position to face the English troops, but the clans were not professional soldiers used to being under artillery fire. Thus, after beginning to suffer the fire of the English mortars, the morale of the people of the clans collapsed and they retired leaving the Spanish alone. A missed opportunity unfortunately. Nice video, thanks for your work.

Excellent video Barry, thanks. Here is a link to a program that's a few years old now: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGHXgZlrjbKmoKc Watch from 38:42 for Glenshiel. It's got Tony Pollard and Tony Robinson talking about the battle.
