It's taken me years to identify and track down this song that I remember my mum singing when I was very young. It's mind blowing to hear it - the words she sang were very slightly different but it still gives me shivers. She was in Scotland as a Wren during WW2 so maybe that was when she learnt it? So many things I'll never know. Love you, Ma. Xxx

Beautiful rendition of such a poignant song. I am learning a classical guitar version that I found that my brother (deceased) had arranged. It’s a lovely piece and so good to hear how it sounds when sung so well. Also has a strong link to my mother who was in the Newhaven Fisherwives choir. Although not fisherwives, they were a well known choir from Newhaven in the 1920s and performed in traditional Newhaven fisherwives dress. I’m sure this song must have been a signature favourite for the choir.

The forth is the Firth of Forth, it’s not a Highland song, it’s East Coast. Beautiful singing from Jean Redpath
