Scottish Tune-The Lammas Tide

Hope you like this one played on Banjo and Guitar:
Now it fell about the Lammas tide
When the muirmen win their hay
The doughty Douglas bound him ride
Into England, to drive a prey
He chose the Gordons and the Grahams
The Lindsays light and gay
But the Jardines wad' not wi' him ride
And they rue it to this day!
I am informed the tune was written by Roy Williamson of the Corries, great tune, great song.

Hello Alan. I believe the Corries did sing this song, but it's much older. It's other name is the Battle of Otterburn 1388, it's first noted in a book in 1765. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Battle_of_Otterburn_(ballad) Kind Regards :)

@@fireflyxl5 It is indeed based on the old border ballad , itself a mash up of various historical events . However , the tune , which I really like and love the version here , is entirely Roy's composition . I love the old Border Ballads and adaptation of them is entirely in the spirit of our wonderful music . Thanks for your response
