Great channel. I just successfully fixed my Mk8 civic which was leaking in the very same place. I used 'Captain Tolleys' (as have others) which is brilliant. It is a white liquid which is almost as fluid a water (like skimmed milk) and you literally just dribble it into the offending crack. It will find it's way into wherever water can go. Repeat at 30 minute intervals...I applied two lots then waited 24 hours and applied a third for good measure (I ran out of light or I could have just waited another 30 minutes). I waited a further 24 hours (time it takes to fully cure) before using the car to ensure body panel movement did not break the seal before it properly set. It is flexible so allows for movement). When applying you can see it disappearing down the crack. You know it's sealed once it no longer drains away. The icing on the cake it dries clear and therefore is more or less invisible. Extremely quick and easy solution that is very effective. I successfully used this or a similar product many years ago on a leaking caravan.

Is the Captain Tolley's still working for your Mk8 Civic? It didn't work on this guy's VW van. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXKWqmt5jZZ_qKc

@@ajcarver1 Yes... still bone dry 10 weeks and around 1800 miles and much heavy rainfall later. It only fills cracks up to 1mm....who knows what was going on behind the rubber seal in the video? Also doing it so soon after testing with water would have resulted in plenty of water still being present when more Tolleys' was added which would have adversely affected things. I used a compressed air line to blow through the cracks which would have dislodged any water. Just as, or even more effective, would have been to leave it until dry hot weather. I also got the much larger bottle and used liberally.

Quick update.....11 months and countless gallons of rain on, Captain Tolley's is still working. It's that easy to do, I thought about dribbling more in to the areas where the panel sealant cracks, just in case the Tolley's is failing anywhere, but I'll leave it just out of curiosity to see how long it lasts.

Likely the lower part of the door seals and or the vapour shields behind the door cards. Sorted mine but was a real pain diagnosing.

No mention of how easy and likely it is for the catalytic converters to be stolen on these in this or the previous video. Any chance you could review the successor of this model? It is in my price range but not sure if it has the same issues as this model (cat theft and leaks). Also, I have no idea how to differentiate between the plethora of Jazz/Fits out there so any tips in identifying the correct model would also help (GPx or GKx, etc...).

Brilliant video, thank you. I’ve had my Jazz for nearly two years and just noticed a small amount of water in the spare tyre well. Watched the vid and checked the areas and I can see someone has already resealed it both sides. There’s a lot of sealant in both corners which has been painted over to match the body colour. Has anyone got any experience with this? Should I rip the whole lot out and start from scratch or get some Captain Tolley’s and go over the top with that? It’s not letting much in right now so I don’t want to open a can of worms but do t want it to get worse.
@ScottishCarClan
@ScottishCarClan Жыл бұрын
Sounds like that may be factory sealant Brook, that's usually what the cracks start to form in. Id leave that on there and apply over the top.
@brookfabian5470
@brookfabian5470 Жыл бұрын
@@ScottishCarClan thanks. It’s definitely been applied post factory as it’s not particularly neat but it has been sprayed. Maybe done by a used dealer to cover up the issue. I’ve never used Captain Tolleys but presumably if I clean up what’s there and tip a load of that down it then it should find the leak right?
