I didn’t get into this until later in life , after I learned Bowie had covered a lot of Richmond’s songs. And I was hooked on his great vocals and all round cool as f delivery, and what’s not to like about authentic rock and roll 🎸 ❤

This was the elastic line up of a third incarnation Modern Lovers. You're describing Modern Lovers Mark 2. JR carried on using that name for the whole of the 80's and having a truly purple patch of albums. Well worth investigating.
