I've been using one for 3 years now. Jeep and Dodge bodies and stainless brackets for ham radio stuff. Works great. You only need to pulse the switch. And my 3° is 235VAC phase to phase. Works a treat.

2 second hold for each spot ?

That would be 1.5 seconds too long .

I like this guy's various jokes (making fun of the unboxing dimwits), he's not a snob who trash talks ALL of Harbor Freight, and his simplicity.

I used the 240 one 8 years ago on my F150, and it worked well 200k miles later, still holding strong.

The 240v works better than the 120v but if you have 3phase service you get 208volt and it dosen"t work very well.

Another great video. Keep it up. To make good quality spot welds you have to make the welding electrodes to be coaxial when the welding materials are between the electrodes & the proper clamping force is applied. Sparking is not normal and could be dangerous ( proper protective gear is a must ). The factory supplied upper tong end has to be bent more to get coaxial with the bottom end. It is obvious that for every thickness of welded materials you will have to use different diameter / length welding tips & set up their alignment individually. A timer is also a must for good quality spot welds. There are timers with welding time compensation. These are monitoring the welding current and adjusting the welding time accordingly.

The 220 version can *readily* weld 2 1/16 pieces of steel - clean the electrodes, round them off to give a nice *radius,* then a brief pulse gives a nice *small* dot… I have one of these welders, and have tested this matter.

This one needs a precise “pulse timer” to do well on thinner materials. I plan to implement one for mine, in addition to a “stand” to hold it at a precise height and angle. (You need three hands, otherwise, if you’re clumsy like me.) You will also want to carefully file your electrodes every so often for best results. You want a “smooth” flat file, sort of like an old “points file” but bigger, to keep the surfaces of the contact electrodes clean and bright.

Timer would be great for consistent spot welds

I wish I had bought one sooner. It has limited use with the tongs on it, but they can be changed
