The wife is usually one of the last to know. Norma Shearer did do this role justice. Bravo!

such dialogue-- superb and natural in style and delivery. In a film such as this one, even the minor character actresses are of such a superior quality and naturalness; that they make the majority of the current ones look and sound as 'stupid and dense' as many of their performances.

The Women was an MGM production and Bugs was under contract at Warner's. So the reference is even more comical. "The Boys" as Jack called the cartoon dept in there little red building, pretty much had carte blanche on mocking anyone in old HollyWoody. Much like Mad Mag. did later.

And you thought word traveled fast on the internet. I had a stay at home mom in the sixties. The gossip spread faster than wild fire. This is a great scene. The manicurist had one short scene and really chewed the scenery, completely stole the scene from Norma, who was a huge star.
