You've done a terrific job, but it's just painful knowing that there's HD version of this sitting on some record company shelf. All the production costs of this came out of Leslie Feist's share of the royalties from the song, but it's just sitting there.

i had no idea. that is indeed tragic, given how iconic this video is. and it may look simplistic from a production standpoint, but that's deceptive; there is some elaborate camera/crane work going on. if you haven't seen this, a very rough 'behind the scenes' video is a good watch for fans: kzbin.info/www/bejne/boqpm6FtlrChh9U

I had never heard this song until August 2015. I was on hold with zulily 4 days after the birth of my son. This was the hold music. I fell in love with it immediately. That was a very happy time in my life, and this song was perfect for the occasion.

I don't think young people of the AI and green screen generations realize the complexity and beauty of pulling this all of with a single camera filming this whole thing uninterrupted and unspliced. Beautiful!

What a dumb and unnecessary comment to make. I'm a millennial and I feel no need to take potshots at younger generations. I don't know if you're older or younger than me but I'm gonna assume you weren't around in the 1920's during the silent film era. Does that mean because you either weren't around to experience it when it was first introduced or because the process of film making with the addition of color and recorded audio has been made so much infinitely more easier means you couldn't appreciate the painstaking efforts they had to go through to make Charlie Chaplin's earliest feature length recorded efforts? Have some self-awareness.

Thank you for doing this. So needed. This takes me back. It was a sad and troubled time (personally and globally), but for some reason, my memories of that time have a sweet sting. This song is like a glittery bookmark in a sad part of a book.

Well said. The song and video are such a time capsule for those of us who were around to experience it in the 00s, but also timeless - you could show this to somebody 100 years ago or 100 years from now and they'll get it too. For me, I was graduating high school at the time, getting ready for what came next. Old teenage hopes, indeed.

this is good work. Upsampling is not easy. Question: why was Feist’s bow at the end cut?
@scotto23173 ай бұрын
good question. the DVD source i worked from truncates not just the bow (the last five seconds of the video), but also the first eight seconds of the video as she emerges from darkness onto the stage. these are moments of "dead air" before the song starts and after the song ends. i've seen the longer version referred to as the "director's version" (which ultimately was the main version), so maybe this was an earlier cut by the label or some such. anyway at the time i worked on this, i couldn't find a better source that included the bow, and because it's all one take, there was no way to seamlessly graft the bow in from an alternate source. so i ran with what i had.

She took six years off between Metals and Pleasure. Then six years off between Pleasure and this one. When you're literally the best singer in the world (yeah I said it!!!!) I think she would have to hold herself to a higher standard. Especially since I'm sure she's aware her vocal range is unfortunately diminishing by the passage of time. But we'll always Have those first four albums to capture her at her absolute peak the greatest singer of this millennium so far. And one of, if not the Greatest female guitarist(s) of all time.

i used a DVD-quality version from a VJ pool. you can see the pool's faint watermark in the lower right-hand corner of the video. VJ pools were subscription services that sent monthly batches of music videos out on DVD to clubs and bars.

But now the audio is muffled :(
@scotto23172 ай бұрын
The audio has always been weird on this video. It sounds to me as though the audio was recorded live in the room so that they could capture the sounds the dancers were making without having to try to foley it later. It’s a low budget choice that results in less fidelity in the music than we’re used to in a music video.
