Woodturning Gadgets: Turning a perfect sphere with the Vermec Sphere Jig

In this video I use the Vermec Sphere Jig to turn a perfect sphere from some cherry. I started out using some red oak but since I'm an idiot an forgot to press the record button, I didn't record turning the oak so I had to use the magic of video to turn my oak blank into cherry.

I know no one ever reads the descriptions of the videos but I should tell you that the Vermec sphere jig is built like a tank. I bet I could run it over with my truck and it would still work. Now that may be a bit of an exaggeration but only slightly. I seriously think it would have no problem surviving a fall from my lathe bed. I'm not sure my foot would survive, however, if it fell off the lathe onto my shoe. Seriously, This thing is built to last several lifetimes. The cutter is made by hunter tools and is readily available since many other tools use the same cutter. Some have asked me if I could fit an easy wood tools negative rake cutter on this jig. I haven't tried it but it seems like it should fit. Not sure why I'd want to do that but it seems possible. The hunter cutter cuts through any wood I've ever used like butter. And it slices through Alumilite Clear Slow resin like nobody's business. For me, I'll be sticking with the Hunter cutter thank you very much.
This really is a great jig if you are going to be turning many spheres. Even more so if they're going to be hybrid wood/resin spheres. You're going to want to maximize the size of the sphere so with this jig you wont make the typical sphere turning mistakes with the typical sphere turning learning curve.
