You may have noticed Batman: Arkham Knight on Switch is not mentioned among the bad Switch ports. This is because the game has to be playable in order for somebody to review it and decide it's a bad port.

I’ve heard the updates are making the game better. Hopefully we can get another update for it soon. Because I loved Asylum and City. They run pretty great. But Knight I’m still hesitant to try.

@@ironcross1252of Asylum is using the Return to Arkham version as a baseline, it’s worse than original game by virtue of the Return to Arkham versions of Asylum and City being both functionally and visually broken in multiple ways. They weren’t good on PS4 and Xbone, I doubt they’d fix them on Switch

As a massive fan of the trilogy, Arkham Knight is now "playable" but definitely not ideal. If it means anything I was able to 100% the game on switch but that is probably because I'm just obsessed with all of the games.

I'm surprised to hear Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 wasn't brought up. It's probably my favorite third party game on the system because it feels just as good to play it on Switch as it is to play on other consoles.

And then we get Frogun, which has low poly visuals, but runs at 30FPS at most, the PS4 and PC versions run at 60FPS, like why would the Switch version run worse than the higher end versions? It's not as graphically complex as Super Mario Odyssey. Like, does it have to with "spaghetti code"? And it uses Unity instead of a proprietary engine

@@mitchelanhalt5261 not op and i haven't paid any attention to the press around this game, but, it absolutely has some pretty horrendous lag when you typically come out of save zones. i think it's having trouble loading the map, i don't really understand why either, i can deal with it, but i totally get why others wouldn't. luckily i just bought it on sale as well, and having a great time playing despite the lag.

It crashed at the boss before last cutscene for me and then I had to skip that cutscene. And then at the very end after I beat the final boss almost right before credits were going to roll it crashed. I was like eff this lol. It crashed so much that part of the anxiety of the game was making sure you saved often in case it would.

Fallout 4 most likely can't run on the switch, the game engine is very CPU dependant.

As someone who has never played the Fallout games, but occasionally loves to go through the YT essay rabbithole of Fallout videos and wish I had the ability to play on Switch. My original experience of Skyrim was handheld while binging Elder Scrolls videos and I really want to do that with Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

@@Boulder7685 you can get pretty cheap low end parts to build yourself a system capable of running those games easily, for reference I had a PC from 2007 with a core 2 duo and 8 GBs of RDR2 RAM, a hard drive, and a display adapter GPU and it ran it at like 40-60 fps just fine at medium settings and I was playing it back in 2019 for the first time so you probably could do better than I did for less

I think what makes a bad port on Switch is a game on Switch that *should* be running great and look good, but it just doesn't somehow. I think that even that something like MK1 that is rough in areas, but is obviously punching above it's weight ten-fold for the system it's on. Something like WWE 2K18 and Alan Wake Remastered are games that should be running and looking just fine but just look awful because they didn't think about how to properly downscale it to Switch

I never was able to get into The Witcher 3, but I found that I progressed much further on Switch than on the Xbox version. I think that portability really helped with that.

Persona 5 is genuinely an impressive port however there are some environments in that game that have the “switch Vaseline” on them (Leblanc at night is a good example) and it’s pretty obvious but still a good port.

I'm still blown away that the entire game dlc art and even concert footage is all one a 16gb cartridge I wonder if that's maybe why some of the textures aren't as high res because they wanted to keep load times fast and the overall file size down or if it really is a switch tech issue maybe both idk but I still absolutely LOVE this game and playing portably

@@ltb1345 runs great I’m talking visual/ load time compared to ps5 happy you haven’t but there are some circumstances obviously the PS five version is going to run better and looks better but it’s just a miracle that that game can run on the switch in a handheld mode. I recently had a really long flight and played it and noticed some things that were different to PS five version. I think it’s simply because I have way too many hours in the game but for what it’s worth your experience because it is a fantastic game.

We have to remember that the switch is just as powerful as a PS2 so the fact it’s running is a marvel in it of itself I’m happy it exists. Do not get me wrong. I take a lot of long distance flights for work so playing persona portably , awesome

For the longest time Doom 2016 and Eternal were the definitive console versions for me just because of gyro aiming. Now there is Steam Deck, which has extra buttons, gyro and can also run those games at 60fps with much better graphics, but those Switch ports are still absolutely fantastic. That’s how I managed to beat Eternal on Nightmare, something that would be near impossible for me without gyro on other consoles.

Nintendo making the Wii a non-HD console really did put them a generation backwards to their competitors, and quite a few of these switch ports really convey that.

How so? All three companies get their tech from the same set of companies, Nintendo just opted to use the older & cheaper ones & that were heavily modified them to work on something more a kin to a portable device. They could've made a console on par with the big boys, but something tells me that most people wouldn't pay a 1000 bucks to play Mario Party.

I don't know where Scott was during P5R release but I saw a lot of people actually caring about this game specially since the deck wasn't released yet so you had the definitive version of P5 on the go,not a bad port, weird that they lower the resolution below 720p but runs really well overall,I finished this 100% and had a blast

Don't get me wrong yes I'm sure some people were thrilled that the game was finally on switch but keep in mind that Joker was announced for Super Smash Bros. back in 2018 and the game that he originally came from didn't come out until late 2022. So it's fair to say that they sort of missed the boat on a potentially successful cross marketing campaign.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion on Switch looks and runs surprisingly well. Even through the game is still a psp game at its core, it still looks very good by modern standards. Some of the gameplay and cutscenes even look like they could be FF7 Remake or Rebirth gameplay as well.

I wasn’t expecting Scarlet Nexus to get a mention here but I’m so happy it did. Probably my favourite game to come out of 2021 and my favourite memories of that summer, but for some reason it got forgotten really fast. I’d love to see that game come to the Switch and maybe add motion control options for the kinetic powers to make it interesting!

Unfortunately a lot of these games that have an anime inspired art style often can often have a homogeneous feel to them. Don't get me wrong I don't mind personally but for someone who is not into anime, it can be a bit hard to distinguish one game from another. Heck I even confused some franchises from time to time such as Tales of and the Trails series.

MK11 on Switch was a component port. Not perfect and is behind the other console and PC versions, but it works and that is what matters (it retains 60fps in combat so yeah)..... heck, I would say the MK1 port could've been the same way had it not been rushed out underbaked

The Switch handles two Fighters well (MK 11) at 60fps; but summoning the Tag Team fighter (MK 1) always breaks the frame rate on switch.

Red Dead Redemption 1, Assassin Creed 4, and Asassin creed 2 runs amazingly on switch. Yeah, they originally PS3 games (and not ps4, like most of the titles here), but damn they perfect ports. Also Sniper Elite 4 runs very well on switch.

In terms of games I'm annoyed never got a port and it's a no brainer since it'd guarantee sales is the 7th gen golden age cod games (cod 4 - black ops 2) it'd be the switch's must have MP game and it's do numbers with the good cod games on the go with all their map packs if they really wanted to maximize sales as well just do them as yearly 40/50 dollar releases since they're old games and they're a guarantee sell

Fallout 3 and especially new Vegas have a lot of issues since they’re running really old engines, getting them to run on switch without issues would be pretty difficult which probably why they haven’t ported them to switch or even modern consoles

Danganronpa collection I was trying to play and the trials are so bad with button delay for the events that require timing. Inconsistent frame rates in walking areas. I heard the third game gets abysmal riddled with sound errors and occasionally going into single digit framerates. Decided later to get it on Steam Deck.

Probably one of the more impressive switch ports to me with an asterisk is Hogwarts Legacy. Because on one hand, the fact they got a 9th gen game that had performance issues running on the switch is insanely Impressive. However, the asterisk is that for me, it is downgraded so much that I don’t know if that’s how I’d prefer to play the game.

I think Hi-Rez’s games on Switch don’t get enough credit. I know they’ve ended support for them, but I remember being super impressed that Paladins ran at 60 fps and looked great. I remember Smite looking good too.

Alien Isolation is great and the port is generally very good on the Switch, but it does suffer from one critical issue, and that's with bad input lag.. which makes certain parts of the game overly difficult.

It was really disappointing how poorly Bloodstained Ritual of the Night looked and ran. There's some nice art, and lighting, and detail. But its not that impressive looking of a game. Especially now that Metroid Dread, and Prince of Persia are out, whiich look AND run awesome. Yet its the version of Bloodstained most play, including myself.

Glad that Bloodstained Curse of the Moon series survive the Switch's limitation, BUT I WILL NOT ACCEPT RITUAL OF THE NIGHT ON SWITCH! YOU ALL KNOW HOW ROTN SWITCH SUCKS SO MUCH COMPARED TO ANY OTHER VERSIONS! I HOPE THAT SWITCH 2 VERSION OF BLOODSTAINED RITUAL OF THE NIGHT SHOULD BE MILES BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL AS WITH THE POWER OF 4K & HOPEFULLY A MUCH BETTER CONTROLLERS, IT SHOULD BE AS EQUAL AS ANY OTHER VERSIONS! As for any other Switch ports I've played, I'm glad that Mega Man 11, Cyber Shadow, & Vengeful Guardian Moonrider survive there even if those games are short in playtime longevity & either have bad padding(MM11) or not enough content(Cyber Shadow & Moonrider). And while Freedom Planet 2 have some downgrades from others like a slightly longer loading times, frame rate issues in some areas, & some bugs that GalaxyTrail have failed to patch it up on time(Nalao Lake stage clear floor clip bug included), it's still a solid port.

I agree! Even though obviously it would look very graphically impressive on PCs and other consoles, the switch version still manages to capture that seamless open-world feel and for the scope of the game, i didnt experience much issues

The worst switch port I've played so far is probably Minecraft. You can't use a light because you will almost instantly hit the unloaded chunks and everything takes a fucking decade to load so most of the time you're just looking at nothing.
