The Wabash Central Railroad with CNUR 7 pulls a short train consisting of 1 airslide hopper and 5 ethanol tanks heads east on the former Cloverleaf line. I picked up the chase east of Warren Indiana and followed the train to Bluffton Indiana where they work out of a trailer.

@@chrisperry1151 Weaver Popcorn in Van Buren. If Weaver stopped they would cut back and stop serving the 2 small grain elevators nearby and their 6 cars a year. That leaves ADM and 20-20 Plastics in Bluffton, only 1 track mile from the NS. If Weaver goes, CNUR goes.

Nice drone coverage! Fun to follow the video in Google Maps from Buckeye to Bluffton. Love the shot of the caboose at the end. Google Maps says the one-way road distance is 11 miles.

Another perfect little rural line, Scott. Amazing echo of the sound of the train groaning and crossing the rail joints, and in such flat lands too! Spookily, this continued long after the train had come to a halt. My new EV also has that, to warn pedestrians when I sneaks up behind 'em!

Nice flight. From an abandoned spur to a trestle with debris washed up against it to a busy industrial spur lined with covered hoppers to a freight yard that's about as up to date as the rails the train traversed. Nice caboose.

Not sure if anyone noticed but the author is playing the same "clickety-clack" sound track in a repeating loop on all his videos of CNUR.
@littlewingpsc27
@littlewingpsc27 3 жыл бұрын
Probably because there is either no mic on the drone, or all you would hear is the drone motors.
@chriswoodruff2293
@chriswoodruff2293 3 жыл бұрын
He explained before that there is no mic on the drone so that’s why you hear it repeat. You hear the sound from track side when watching drone shots.

In a side/related note, I drove past the Connersville & New Castle (reporting mark CNUR) this weekend and saw that they are storing a lot of covered hoppers and coal cars on their line again. All visible from I-70. I'd love to see some action on that line again.

Rolling stock does not exceed the weight, its a shortline after all. What would however is maybe a modern diesel or a decent sized steam engine.

Those are empty tanks. But they are classified as hazardous residue so they need cover and are restricted to no more than 5 hazardous cars in the consist.

Does anyone know how much they charge per car to store them per month? TIA.
@cdavid8139
@cdavid8139 3 жыл бұрын
empty hazmat railcars tend to be in the $3 to $5 per car per day range. In addition there is a switch in and a switch out charge. This can very depending on location and commitment. Cherry picking (where the customer orders cars out of storage based on requesting specific cars can be factored in. Also long term agreements can impact the rate. For example you might make an agreement with a car owner to lease them 5,000 feet at a flat monthly rate.
