Here we have a Browning Auto 5 in 16 gauge, a 1957 production Belgian made beauty with a 26'' barrel, 2 3/4'' chamber, and Improved Cylinder choke. While it was frustrating shooting trap with it that is certainly not its strong suit and I believe it would be a better slug gun.
Mentioned in the video were several related Milsurp Garage KZbin videos that might be of interest.
• Browning A5 Light Twelve
• Browning A5 Tip
• Remington Mowhawk 48 (...
• Winchester Model 1911
• Winchester Model 40
• Winchester Model 50
• Remington Model 8
• Breda Brescia

You probably already know about "Art's Gunshop" in Misouri. He is the go to guy for anything pertaining to Browning A-5s. He has some great videos on repairing and restoring them.

About time. A5 is a hand held claymore. Built like the empire state building in the nyc😢.. I have 3 pre 1911, named Remington auto loading shotgun. I think the kommies stole part of this gem. Thanks for the vids.

Enjoyed the video as the Auto-5 is one of my favorite design guns and I have two of them. A Beligian made Light 12 and a old model 720 Savage 16 ga. I have taken apart the rougher Savage but not the more immaculate Light 12 though I did manage to take the stock off one time. What a great design!

I really like these shotguns, I have owned several, for a while a few years back you could pick them up pretty cheap, lately they are going up in price steeply. If you have New Springs and the Friction rings and bronze friction pieces set up properly these shotguns are a pleasure to shoot with very manageable recoil. If you have one that kicks hard the recoil spring is likely collapsed or the friction rings are not set up right or missing.

Quite interesting. I did not know that FN permitted domestic manufacture of models of the A5. Nor did I realize that Winchester was so sensitive to sales of the model 97 that it would balk at manufacture of the A5. It's hard to understand that business decision, as it would seem to me that they could have a "best seller" - which the A5 proved to be - and still would have reasonable sales of a less expensive, well-loved pump action. I remember R. Lee Ermy's video on the history of shotguns. When he got to the advent of SA shotguns, he shot an A5 and seemed to have some trouble with the recoil. I recall him saying "...you have to really want to shoot that one.."

Thing was, Winchester already HAD the best seller, and the second best, and the third best. You know what they say….. threes company, fours a crowd.

I always liked the A5 but I wanted it with more capacity. Was there ever a variation that held at least 6

I have the Remington version and it's fine gun. That looks like it could be a tough trap field to shoot? Are those birds breaking above that treeline?
@MilsurpGarage
@MilsurpGarage 4 ай бұрын
It’s a challenging field. A huge berm causes crazy updrafts, the birds visually skirt the treeline and it’s a wind tunnel. I love that place though.

I use ic choke for early season pheasant, and it works great. Im thinking the gun just doesnt fit you because ic choke should be a breeze on the trap range

Yeah, but coupled with a 26’’ barrel and 1oz 16 gauge loads? I’m sure the sight picture I was lining up had a hand in it as I couldn’t find the sweet spot but I certainly felt there wasn’t the same shot velocity or density that my 30’’ full choke 12 gauges have……to a fault.

@MilsurpGarage Yeah, maybe the ammo because I've seen your videos when your smoking clays with a full choke. And that's definitely harder than a more open choke.

The 1911 shotgun is a weird novelty but fun to use. The Model 40 is an interesting long recoil attempt that was pulled in a year but who can say why.....it always works good for me......but it's a little scary given the rumors and conjecture. The model 50 is a floating chamber gem of a shotgun. I love it. Problem is.....I love them all.
