A point that I have found useful (because I am often Nav-challenged) is to put a beacon on a ship with a Sensor set to detect your Engineer. The Beacon should be OFF when the Engineer is within 50m and ON when outside of that. It saves power when you're nearby and automatically activates when you move away so you don't forget where you parked.

I would like to claim brilliance, but if I were really smart I'd remember where I parked! I often do the same thing for bases...using a sensor to turn the base beacon off when I'm close by and turn it on when I'm away. I did a tutorial (linked below). I always struggle with small grid ships. I start simple enough, but then go way overboard once I have a frame built. I'm mainly based on Pertam, I prefer hydrogen thrusters, and I always try to build a ship that will work in every environment so I don't have to build multiple different ships for each planet/moon/asteroid. I'm also guilty of always trying to build multi-purpose ships, again, so I don't have to have multiple different ships. Heavy armor is another thing I struggle with, I always use too much. Even with mods that give 5x the boost to hydrogen thrusters, I end up with a ship that's too heavy for Pertam. 😂 I'm on my 8th version of a combo scout fighter. Ugh. You should've seen my small grid combo fighter/miner/cargo/interplanetary ship. 😅 That thing was fugly but functional. I need to go back and watch your guides, stop trying to combine everything into one ship, and make prettier ships. 😊

I found a solution to that: Attachments. Imagine you have a rotor with no head on your ship, then at some place in your base, held in place by either tires or mag plates, you have tools with a rotor head stuck at the end. Now all you gotta do is align and hit attach. Just be sure to have detach on a different hotbar or you might end up having a really bad day...

I like to add a spotlight facing down on atmospheric craft as well as the one facing forward. In darkness or bad weather it is a huge help to detect the ground quickly in flight and tell how far away it is for landing safely.

I've been an SE player for more than a year now, but still today I can't get my ships to look as nice as I'd like them to, especially when I'm building warships for my 4 factions world, I'm glad you give these tips as you're surely a great builder, but I'm starting to think it's just not a game I'm capable of being good at, i appreciate to look at your ships tho, they are really interesting

That method is outdated, Drillsystem is the way to go.

@@creatineforthesoul6495 Well, just enjoy the game and be an engineer. Just remember, the more you build, the more baggy it will get, to the point of slowing down completely.

I just listened to your rant on "Space Engineers solo survival #39" and I have something to add: I thoroughly appreciate your videos, all your hard work and indeed your semi-coherent commentary! You genuinely sound like a cool guy. Now, I never comment or like anything on YT, but if I have to do it, this should be it. Wheels and blast doors make amazing bumpers and don't require grids iirc, they're really nice early on.

If you get the chance, since I don't believe you've done a Handbook page on this, what about Cargo Shuttles? Something relatively cheap and able to ferry a decent amount of cargo between planet and space so we're not wasting a ton of ice to bring down and launch a large freighter.
