That scraper is beautiful. Repurposing old tools by using your own resources, skills and imagination in your own shop is an all American tradition to me. I can't imagine using that beautiful scraper it to scrape off old dirty gaskets from car parts, but it has lots of uses and is a wonderful heirloom type tool. The angle guide looks like the perfect tool for a project like this in order to get an accurate and consistent angle. Great job as usual.

Well what do ya know, another project that "turned" out great! Does the chuck come off the Lathe easy enough? Maybe you could add a heavy steel disk between the housing and the chuck, or on the other end of the spindle shaft to function as a flywheel? That should help the lath run more smoothly and not lose speed so easily when you are turning a work piece with a bit larger diameter. Maybe even a larger drill chuck would help if you can find one with the same thread? I have had this thought before, but I don't remember if I actually suggested it before. If I have, sorry. I don't mean to sound like a broken record. I am just getting too old to remember what I do with all my thoughts!

@@357magdad I have seen enough of your basement to know that you have room for a nice old Craftsman wood lathe. My father in-law has a nice older one all set up nice, but he has not used it in at least 20 years. If you have the room and the money I suggest getting a "real" lathe. There are a lot of good midi lathes under $600. I think my tiny lathe would frustrate a beginner. I had to make modifications and replace the tools to get good results.

@@357magdad never heard of that! Where do you buy it? 30 min epoxy was common in the 90’s but it seems harder to find these days. Must be the rush rush cell phone culture, nobody wants to wait more than five mins for anything 😂
