Hey ScoutCrafter, a tip to keep that leather in condition would be to use a viscous oil such as bone oil or neats foot oil, just lightly coat both sides of it to prevent it from dry rotting or cracking. A lot of people think leather doesn’t last that long, but I have worked with saddles over a hundred years old that are still in great condition because they were maintained well and kept oiled. Thanks for these amazing videos, they inspire me to restore old tools myself!

Great purchase, great tool kit. Your story reminded me of a friend who couldn’t sell his lightly used, undamaged, well-maintained 8 year old flat-bed farm pickup truck from in front of his office for only $4000. He tried for weeks, but no nibbles. He asked his buddy, the used car salesman, for help. Leave it to me, his buddy said. He got it shined up, doubled the price and put it on his lot near his new trucks - sold it the first day for $8,000. The moral of my tale - If it’s priced too cheap, people thinks there’s a problem, and hesitate. Glad you took the plunge Scoutcrafter - great purchase.

What a great score! Leave the guy good feedback! I always go out of my way to take care of my customers on there and when someone does right by me, I let them know because I feel it encourages them. When I sell something, I pack it in a way that it would survive being run over by a truck! I got a real nice leather coat the other day and it was packed by a lady and this jacket was folded so neatly and clean with no odors and she wrapped it in paper towels and the box was perfect. I contacted her to thank her and complement her on her skills and cleanliness and she really appreciated it. What goes around, comes around I always say

Oh yes. I ALWAYS give great feedback on packaging and shipping. I got a vintage 3 Wheeling magazine from 1985. Took me 40 minutes to open it it was packaged so perfectly. I complemented him to no end and gave him a 5 star rating. I think he was kind of embarrassed I was bragging his packing job up so much! But when you’ve been ripped off like I have you tend to really appreciate those who are honest and genuine.

I sat in my study and drooled as you showed the tools. The perfect handle screwdrivers and wrenches are beautiful and the Billings spanners are fantastic. These tools are now in the best possible hands to ensure they survive as most people would not realise the significance of these tools. In Sheffield there was a chap called Ken Hawley (worth Googling the name) who rescued loads of tools before they were scrapped. You are doing a similar job for posterity. GREAT video.

Scoutcrafter, I saw dragonman site and it scared me witless:-). I think that the last pic hits the nail on the head. Somewhere, I have the old tool roll from my Dad's Model T Ford from the 1920s. I believe that most cars came with tool kits up until WWII. After that, it seemed like only the foreign made cars came with tool kits. The best kit was the one that came with VW Beetles in the 1950s and 60s. It made the 1500 mile oil change and service easy. Another fascinating visit with you and your toys. Now, I have to go out and get some more firewood in preparation for the coming storm(already got the generator ready). I hope that everyone weathers it ok. Good Luck, Rick

I complained to eBay and the seller, but to no avail. The dealer is still selling, and as you can tell it bugs me no end. I am happy that your deal worked out well.

Well the item never came so I tried to contact him again and he never responded... So I said "OK I will have to leave you negative feedback" When I tried to leave feedback I couldn't because the auction was over 60 days!!!!!!! I have never heard you so excited and rightfully so. Nice find. I've seen some of those items go individually for more than the bid. Early on I was selling off some items on Ebay that were gathering dust. Not paying attention I put one thing up with no reserve. It went for the opening price at less rhan half of what it was worth. The lady who purchased it messaged me and said she felt bad knowing that it was worth more. I told her it was an auction and that's how it works. I have had items that I won the bid on end up never arriving. I also had people angry when I told them my deal with checks and I didn't ship until the check cleared. I don't sell much anymore.

Hello BAJ! I really think this is such a fantastic hobby as long as you aren't in it for the money... Money ruins EVERYTHING!!! Where else can you find a old pair of pliers and mint them out and really enjoy them! Thanks so much!
@big_air_jer97686 жыл бұрын
@@ScoutCrafter do you kinda of mean buying and selling? Instead of just doing it for the love of the tools and as strictly a collector?
@Carpetcleanerman6 жыл бұрын
Congratulations scoutcrafter. What a great auction and you well and truly deserve it! I hope the seller wont feel too bad about it having sold it for so little money, but these tools couldnt have gone to a better home. Enjoy

Hello Hanno! I think he probably got the roll for $20 somewhere and figured he would start the auction at $50... He will do better from now on because he has 100% positive feedback! Thanks so much!!!!!

Tool rolls were often used on early sets as cheaper than a box..

Bob, I think by the 1970's tool rolls were on their way out and gave way to the hours clamshell packaging!

Very lucky, awesome find! 👍 👍 I definitely would have taken that chance too.

Hi Bert! Now a days eBay will back you up.. Years ago you were on your own! LOL 15 years ago If I called eBay and told them I received a Brick in a piece of canvas they would have said "You did receive the item but the description was bad" LOL Thanks Bert!
