Hello Wyatt! Those clamps are Ductile iron and always come out great! The cheaper clamps would pit and not look as good but you can't lose with good old quality alloys! Thanks very much! 😃👍

I rebuilt an old 1940s drill, had the motor rewound, replaced bearings. Because I use that drill often, I replaced the worn cord with a high quality 50' grounded extension cord. It's slightly bulky with the built-in long cord, but very useful for my needs.

Great videos! I'm just getting into tool restoration. I just finished my first monkey wrench which is similar to the one you show at 4:00. My pin wasn't staked and was easy to extract with a screwdriver. My next job is a huge plumbers wrench.

The collection is growing. That Monkey Wards tool may have been for the farmers. I have a good set of Duro Chrome wrench's from my Grand father, that are missed marked.( small sizes ) I haven't look into it, might be a common thing back then. These tool's are from late twenties or thirties. Wards tools had a good reputation , right up there with many tool makers. Thanks again Good stuff.

Hello norherman! You know I was thinking maybe that wrench was a throw-away, a second that didn't make it to the end of the line. Usually they just re-melt the rejects down again but the flange around the inside of the wrench shows that it didn't get to the finishing stage... Pretty cool! Thanks very much!!! 😃👍

Have you tried Evaporust? That's all I use now. Used to have a bucket of vinegar/salt solution, too. Evaporust eliminated the need. Works pretty fast and it's reusable.

Hello Manolis! I use shellac that comes in the quart can but the spray shellac works great too! It can be used on wood, metal and even CANDY! Non toxic! Great stuff! Thanks very much! 😃👍

How do you deal with flash rusting

Hello clive! Flash rusting is inevitable... There is no way around it, the best way I have found is as soon as it comes out of the baking soda bath, dry the part and then if it does flash rust a quick wire brushing or steel wooing will remove the surface rusting then immediately coat the tool with shellac or finish of your choice! At :46 you can see the crack (cold shut) on the movable casting. Nice job. I do similar restoration.

Hello Gord! Are you talking about the Monkey Wrench rear of the upper slide? If so the lighting made the flashing look like a crack but it was just a protruding seam! I've yet to get one of these wrenches cracked, a lot of them are bent but they were pretty malleable! Thanks very much!!!!!!!

On a similar one I cleaned by B&R Phila. with Ford script there is a definite line almost all the way up. It is not flashing but in a very slight depression. If you have access to Liquid penetrant you may find that it is a crack. Of the four that I have cleaned up, 2 have indicators of crack, perhaps only surface, in a straight line up the length of it. I have some of the huge adjustables done and several sizes of Soldering Coppers.

Why bother with the acid bath if you're going to brush them with the wire wheel anyway?

Adam Ant a wire wheel is good for removing flash (surface) rust, but won’t remove heavier embedded rust. It will just burnish in the rust defeating the purpose. Factors such as the porosity of the metal and the type of wire wheel have an effect on the results.

They all came up nicely dudnt they? The clamp in orange looked good..The swaged hole edges on the monkey wrench we call it "staking" ..The open end wrench makes me wonder..It should have been properly broached at the factory,iafter all its only a one step process..Hmm?

Definitely agree that that wrench must have been a reject or a second. Besides the j aw grinding, there's just something overall cheap feeling about it. Too square and block y.
