Great job on the cutaway on the gas valve. I was a tech for a gas utility for 35 years. The lubricant you referred to in the valve is actually gas valve grease. We used to carry tubes of gas valve grease to repair a valve that was leaking. They would dry out overtime and usually a valve like that would never be turned for years so they would begin to leak. Found and repaired thousands of them during my time. We would take them apart and take a little gas valve grease on a finger and rub it around on it. Put it back together and no more leak. Be good for another 50 years.

@@ScoutCrafter oh and I forgot to add. There were always pranksters out of our shop who would valve grease the door handles to the truck. There was nothing worse than going to the truck in the morning and grabbing the door handle to the truck and coming away with a handful of that grease at six in the morning. 😂

Totally agree. Ladder accidents are at the top of the list when it comes to workplace recordables. Good companies have ladder inspection programs and take these kind of ladders out of service before somebody gets hurt. Funny, 25 years ago I worked on a project in China. The steel plant hand long ladders made from bamboo that everyone was using. I said nope, me getting on that ladder aint gonna happen!

ScoutCrafter, 😊 Very enjoyable show. There are some very interesting subjects covered. The gas valve you have is referred to as a plug valve. They can be used to control flow rates but are normally used for on/off service. They do come in large sizes 12" and larger. We used large 3-way plug valves, so the venting system on a tank could be connected to a high (gasoline) or low (heavy fuel oil) vapor pressure lines. To make sure the tanks were never 100% isolated, there was a round hole drilled through the cylindrical opening. Before the valve position was changed, the plug had a jacking/seating mechanism for moving the plug vertically on the seat. I am not a chemist, nor do I claim any knowledge of chemistry. I have worked closely with fire safety people and worked on the installation of fire suppression systems. Your fire extiguisher has bromochloromethane is a mixed halomethane. It is a heavy low viscosity liquid. It is a forerunner of Halon 1301. It was banned by the NFPA in 1969. It was banned in 2002 because of greenhouse gasses and global warming. Halon 1301 was developed as a safer alternative to bromofloromethane. Halon 1301 is bromotrifluoromethane is gaseous as opposed to being a liquid. Halon 1301 is all but a banned substance. Although there are alternatives to Halon 1301, the main answer has been CO2. Bob

I feel your pain with the small ladder. I have a Werner 6' step ladder that has thrown me off so many times by twisting and rolling. The sheet metal is just not rigid enough. I learned that when you set it up, pull out on the legs (span) to make sure all the flex is out of the structure, and it is really stable. I still don't like it even though I use it when I have to. Uneven floor is more of an issue than the manufacturers leg length. Werner makes a "home" 2-step ladder that is sturdier than the type you bought. I got one from Lowes for my shop when I was hanging my lights. I carried it back and forth to the house so many times that I just bought another one. I love it and wobble has never been an issue. The frame is tubular and more rigid and locks open firmly. The model I have is S412-6 and top step is 17" and 250 lb. capacity. I think the top body support bar is not quite as high as you bought, but I can still brace my legs against it for my balance without it flexing. Just my experience with Werner for what it's worth. Thanks.

Chlorobromomethane extinguishers (CB) were commonly used on flight lines on military bases. The problem was that the agent was toxic and corrosive, and when used in a fire, it created toxic clouds. Needless to say, they got phased out.

Ha! Yes, I hate wobbly ladders and tables. I would have tried one thing first. Lay the ladder (or chair, card table, saw table...) on the floor on its side. The two legs that are too high or far apart, place one on the floor and the other one up high over it, off of the floor. Push the two together a bit to correct the issue. It takes a little trial and error like on the Dake to straighten out something. I've done this a million times.

I wouldn't have taken the uneven ladder home either. Fortunately, the hardware store has a cure for uneven furniture in many cases. The adjustable screw in feet can help in many cases. Wobbly chairs and tables are very aggravating, but I guess uneven floors have to take their share of the blame. Fire extinguisher came out great. Oxalic acid is also used to clean and flush radiators.

John, I’ve fixed a few things like that wobbly stepladder by using a few carefully placed hits with the right sized dead-blow hammer. This only works with aluminum steps; really what is bending is the step to frame connection. If one gets too enthusiastic, that’s a bent step or frame. Do you think that would have worked? Obviously good quality at the outset is best! 🤬
