SCP-158 | Soul Extractor (SCP Orientation)

SCP Orientation is an archive of files of the SCP Foundation.
Today we will be studying item number SCP-158: Soul Extractor, Object class: Euclid.
SCP-158 is a large mechanical arm, resembling a pointed tridactyl claw. A series of cables are protruding from the base and some are connected to a complex mobile console. When used correctly upon a living organism that displays cognition, SCP-158 will remove an unknown substance and transfer it through the dispensing device beneath the console. After this action is performed, the organism that it was performed on will cease all higher brain functions, with only the activity in the brain stem continuing.
The substance removed is gaseous, though its overall appearance and properties differ from subject to subject. The substance is an indefinite source of kinetic, electrical, heat, and light energy.

@@Pheonix-ix4ei Even if all humans are dead , Dr Bright would still be alive cause his soul is in the amulet...he just lack a body/vessel. One time he possessed a monkey's body....so he can function in bodies other than human also. If you give him a body then he can function normally...so the only way to kill him is to extract his soul from the amulet or to destroy the amulet. Both of this is not possible till date. Also readers like Dr Bright very much and he's done enough deeds to earn him a site director position . So i don't think anybody or Scp foundation would like to neutralize a very capable scientist .

914 tends to be a touch random in what it will and won't do. The chances of it repairing the manual and the chances of it turning into a three-foot paper mache mecha firing paper missiles comparable to a frag grenade are about even.

Gods, this thing. They don't play with it anymore after Event Olympia Damascus Intermissum(Someone thought they were being cute, literally Gods Chains Broken). To be fair, there is a good reason not to trust anyone after they've been through this one. Too many things contained that we don't know if they appear on higher planes. Tried to trick 343 into it once, after all, if he is what he claims to be, this would be interesting. It...well, it sort of worked, but what came out of him went back in, regardless of our intentions, and the people on site that day didn't make it. Lost over two hundred personnel, and even had to decommission some Skips when that happened...the Lizard survived, but even he was docile for a few weeks afterwards...not like, he was injured, but more, he was happy with something he saw during it.

It’s not human and it’s clearly got a lot more in it then you’re average dude. Hell it’s entirely possible that even if you do extract it’s Soul that it’ll simply “Regenerate” a new Soul

​@@claytondavis6835 they're able to contain 682 for the most part, so that would mean that they can create a type of restraining apparatus that keeps it from breaking loose while 158 preforms the procedure. Also, they can have safeguards and safety measures on stand by just in case it broke out. Also, I think you have it backwards because every time that they've tried to kill 682, it was from the outside in. From using other SCP's to maim it, various substances to dissolve it's body, firearms, and explosives all deal with damaging the "container" of the creature rather than the "contents" or "soul/essence." This machine appears to operate on a different plane of existence, one in which the Scarlet King is on, so if that was the case then it's entirely plausible that they can move 682's "soul" into another "container" for better well, containment.

If you miss or something messes up the extraction you’d probably lose the extractor. 682 has survived encounters with reality Warpers before. If it could survive an encounter with the deer ( I think it did at some point) this device probably wouldn’t do it. Further we don’t even know if it could work on something like 682

Also, keep in mind that they now have “subject zero’s” valuable insight and assistance in helping with this procedure. It would probably give valuable perceptions that they couldn’t even fathom. Add that into 158 and there’s a high probability that the procedure could work. But first, they would probably test it on something more “docile” but just as powerful as 682 like the deer before trying it on the lizard. Again, they won’t know until they try.

It would've been a Euclid class anomaly, located in [REDACTED], Alaska known as *The Polite Waters* . Basically, anything inorganic touching it would be dissolved in a matter of minutes while anything organic would be completely safe, and all types of organisms could breathe while in it, and if one were to stay in it for an hour straight, then they themselves would turn into an instance of SCP-6001-2 which would take away that person's ability to breathe elsewhere.

Well the D class didn't die persay, as the bodies are healthy. In my opinion I would say somewhere around 60-70 D class were used. I would say only a small portion of D class if any are expired, many could be used for an infinitely running AI.

@@Sentinel82 In real life there's a similar concept. Prisoners agree to be subjected to experimentation and in exchange their sentences get shortened then commuted. Sometimes this has resulted in death. Still, there is a thing called "informed concent" where they still need to be informed of the risks, and while normally an experimental risk of death weighed against a certainty of death is an obvious choice most real prisoners when faced with the prospect of their souls being imprisoned or experimented on would choose death. That said the US government has and frequently does perform illegal medical studies. In the 70's nerve gas was deployed against US soldiers without informing them just to see what would happen and they didn't even follow up on them to determine long term health impacts. It wasn't until years later that soldiers were notified of what was done to them. Then in 1982 an illegal medical study was conducted at the Beaufort South Carolina Naval Hospital in which the pregnant wives of soldiers were given an illegal drug without telling them that it was illegal or that they were in a study. It wasn't until 1992 when information became public, but only be a the victims attempted lawsuit. The US government responded by moving the medical records from that hospital to a military service database in St Louis without an identifying number. This had the effect of burying the records because you need a military service ID to find a record. To this date the US government has refused to take responsibility. Attempts to file complaints through the Department of Justice results in a response that the Naval Hospital is independent even though the Doctor was working for the DOJ. I'm not aware of any more recent studies, but since the US government has experimented on soldiers and their families already without informed consent I guess it's a bit more believable that an organization like the NSP would treat prisoners even worse.

When Einstein was asked why he helped the government after his research was weaponized after being explicitly told that it wouldn't be he sarcastically responded with: "If you can't trust your government who can you trust?" Today antivaxxers are as much of a problem as people who over vaccinate (both extremes are equally bad which I can explain if you are curious) but can you blame people? During the cold War very young children were injected with radioactive isotopes while being told it was a vaccine and that wasn't the first or last time the government used fake vaccines in illegal medical studies. Those were of course rare. Extremely rare. You are far more likely to die of smallpox (which has recently re evolved in Alaska as Alaskapox) than you are to be subjected to such a study, but that's exactly how people begin to believe in widespread conspiracies. I think the real problem is a lack of accountability. Since federal agents have absolute immunity from civil damage and since prosecutors can choose not to prosecute rarely are there any consequences. Victims who know about it must fight for decades for admission and usually the culprits die of old age before anyone admits to it. Given this reality it's much harder to trust the government.

Since putting souls in objects seem to make them "come back to life", as seen with the assistant's broken computer, I wonder what would happen if a soul were to be inserted into the burnt instructions manual. Dr.Birght might be saved from his eternal life with this, also lizard could be changed to being neutralized as its evolving properties are in its body not in soul.. Also it could ''save'' couple of other scps like the girl inside the drawing. Also one of the first experiments i would try would be placing soul inside human shaped object or object with properties to move like human. Also I would check if animals have souls as it would make testing much easier and less ''evil''. Also some scps could be checked if they posses soul like devil deal in which it theorized that u are not making deal with devil but it s effect of the desk itself.

@@Sentinel82 Look i know that in our World that is the case in some example but if in that world we could clearly see that animals do not posses soul and humans do, it would actualy show that human race is difrent from them, better and so using animals would be less evil. Also not all d-class personel are criminals and some of them were just affected by scp.

id like to know if his regenerative capability is related to his body or his soul if its anything related to the scp christian myths, then its probably related to its soul meaning you can contain scp 682 more easly by transfering his soul to a weaker, more managable body, like a Podarcis sicula(italian wall lizard, 9 cm in lenght) ranking it down to euclid
