Join the DR BOB SQUAD by going to / drbob and become an Honorary Member of the Dr. Bob Research Staff!
SCP-5457 refers to a population of approximately 23,000 sapient anthropomorphic beings living in a vast system of partially flooded underground caves and tunnels, located under and around lake Grenouilleau in France.
SCP 5457 instances bear resemblance to amphibians of the anura order. Instances are on average 1.50m tall, bipedal, have varying body shapes, and display different skin colours and patterns.
SCP5457 instances are capable of secreting a toxic mucus, the quantity and potency of which is influenced by an instance's health.
SCP-5457 are terrified of French people, who they believe would hunt and eat them if they were discovered.

Oh wow, thanks for covering my first ever SCP article! The inspiration behind this was that I wanted to make fun of a French stereotype that I find exaggerated, being French myself. Intitially, the article only contained the account of Martin's capture and then a long and boring overview of SCP-5457's culture and society. Someone pointed out there wasn't much of a story, so I decided to rework it. I thought "well, if they are so scared of being eaten, then I guess I need to follow up on that. But why would someone eat one of them? Memetic compulsion? No, that's boring, it has to be a conscious choice." And that's how Duvarier ended up being a Foundation agent that is willing to go to great lengths for her duty.

Great story. However. The foundation once again handled it wrong. They could have staged some sort of incident (dangerous cargo spillage for example) that supposedly renders an area uninhabitable somewhere in the middle of a huge forest and allowed them to move there if they wished. Though the foundation always handles things poorly, which makes it a good story.

As a french, this scp is hilarious. I had a couple of frog legs in my life, it's kinda like chicken, quite fat as it's usually fried or cooked with butter and garlic. But it's definitely not a common dish.

This was such a great story! Poor Michelle and Sgt. Duvall. I understand the need to keep them under cover so they don't potentially get hurt by humans, but I feel like there might've been an easier way to make this work. Maybe by cordoning off the lake under the guise of a government environmental task force sent to study the effects of climate change or whatever, they could have a large perimeter where the denizens of Under-Frogia could enjoy the lake and the surface without needing to feel fear or trapped.
@TheColdbloodassassin
@TheColdbloodassassin Жыл бұрын
They essentially did that, but humans aren't actually stupid and will begin to question the real motives. Also, just like humans, the frogs will have to expand their territory eventually. Inevitably, either humans discover them first, or they attempt to encroach on human territory (which will end in the frogs' eradication).

It’s secure contain protect. Not safety comfort pleasure. SCP Foundation mentality is; our best interest the public should never have a chance of learning of anomalies if we can prevent it by any means. They really only give extra luxuries to scps to further research (if the foundation deem it necessary) which in this case the foundation got what it wanted and the anomaly is contained which is all that matters at the end of the day
@Saikocide
@Saikocide Жыл бұрын
@@KingKors99If their sole purpose was to only protect humanity of their existence then they should've given the job to the GOC. An anomaly shall be Secured, identified, and taken away from human contact for its safety and others, Contained, in a way that the anomaly, depending on it's properties; is to be catered to in order to prevent a containment breach (i.e, the Frog Rebellion; In this instance, instability is shown due to the current containment procedure, SCP-953's many breaches), and to Protect, whether it be anomalous or human.

This reminds me of an episode of A Centaur's Life. A young amphibian-folk child was found near death only to be adopted and raised by a french mammal being (though I forgot what folk person he is) and became a politician who also goes back to his native homeland as an ambassador (I'm assuming) and sees that some of his tribesmen are wearing military gear. Believeing they could overthrow the mammalian folks and their gods. I have not read the manga so no spoilers!

We probably eat more frogs here in the Southern US than in the entirety of France. They taste a little fishy, have a chicken-like texture, and are just amazing. This is such an interesting SCP because for once, I actually agree with both sides. We humans barely get along as is, we hate and kill each other over the stupidest fucking reasons, race, religion, gender, nationality, etc, so there would 100% be a bunch of crazy people who would hunt these guys to extinction simply for the sake of “just because”. And yet, the SCP wasn’t wrong either, it is only natural for a species to want to expand, and grow and become better, that’s utterly natural so not wanting to be confined to just a bunch of caves is reasonable. I think this could have been handled better sure, but like, interesting to see an SCP where you can’t definitely say which side is truly in the right here.

Oh, yeah, 5457 got nothing to worry about the foundation when it comes to neutralizing annomalies. It's the GOC they got to worry about. Maybe sharing some the SCP's side stories of some of the stunts GOC pulled to neutralize annomalies would of convince some of them to stay hiding. Better yet introduce one of those frogs to Dr. Cleft and tell them he's a former GOC operative. Maybe perhaps introducing one to SCP 1609 as proof
