I appreciate all that was shown here to represent the arts and work done at SCPA. HOWEVER, can you PLEASE find a more CREATIVE WAY to represent the Creative WRITING department. As a parent of one Creative Writing Major ALUM and a parent of a current SENIOR Creative Writing Major...who always seem to be UNDER-REPRESENTED in the arts offered and funded...... I ask, PLEASE would you even the playing field and REPRESENT their work better? SHOW a WRITTEN SCRIPT or the printed literary magazine.....highlight the work of those who have submitted pieces for the Corbett-Mayerson's.....like an ORIGINALLY WRITTEN script for short FILM that then was produced and placed on film for people to view and review! One shot of a student standing there talking...which cannot even be heard for the music in your presentation which was probably representing the spoken word group is NOT a fair representation of Creative Writing! Most people wouldn't even know that is what is was!!!! And then one shot with a group of people sitting in a room and one student with the SCPA newspaper in their had is also NOT enough!!!!! There have been creative writers who have WON NATIONAL Awards for their work.....find a way to show them and a headline or the certificate of their winning for their written work! Many of the Drama Ensemble presentations in the past have been originally written pieces by SCPA students and especially SCPA writers who have worked on Ms. Lenning....what about that? AND NONE of the DRAMA students would have ANYTHING to act in or to PERFORM if there were not PEOPLE somewhere WRITING the SCRIPTS.......SHOW ALL OF THE ARTS....INCLUDING THOSE WHO WRITE THE POWERFUL WORDS that are then acted upon and SUNG!!!!! WE had an excellent creative writing teacher in Ms. Braun and she worked very HARD and WAS overworked, but she is gone now.....but we have a person with a DOCTORATE in CREATIVE WRITING in DR. SAAR.....PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE will you give some recognition and credit to this area of the school???? Just because it is not as VISUAL as the other arts OR as obviously "performing" as the other Arts, doesn't mean it should get less notice or less recognition than the other arts of the school! I am tired that as a very PROUD parent of my own children as Creative Writers and other students that I have to come to know as creative writers not getting the spotlight or the credit that they deserve and work very hard for....and that most people in the general public of Cincinnati and beyond don't even know there is a Creative Writing major at SCPA! Come on PR people....SHOW ALL THE ARTS IN FAIR REPRESENTATION!!!! Furthermore, take a hard look at the fact that the Junior's Competition for the Corbett/Mayersons is NOT a FAIR representation of all the arts at the school and NOT fair for Writers to compete with the other more visual and performing arts in the way that the competition is organized!!!!!! I CANNOT be silent on this matter any longer! Dr. Lynn M. Somers
