Yeah, i just started watching your videos and they are all informative...i understand your terminology and you always explain what other people may refer to or call different things....same thing different term.
@brackenrecycling95057 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Raul! Yeah, all the different names can get very confusing, even for me! When I am getting prices from my buyers I always have to stop and remember what that particular buyer calls each item, it gets a little ridiculous sometimes. I always tell people to pay attention to the price you're getting not the name someone is classifying your material as. I have to stop and remind myself of this from time to time! It causes so much confusion that ISRI has even created "code names" for material. I think they created it to help seller/buyer transactions so there would be less misunderstanding on the type of scrap they are selling but they are just guidelines. I pasted a link below in case you were curious! www.isri.org/docs/default-source/commodities/specsupdate.pdf

Great video, informative. My yard takes aluminium as aluminium, does'nt matter if it's crushed sodacans or heatsink or a pipe like you showed. I do separate everything and things I'm not sure about I put aside and ask about it when I get to the scrapyard. I do strip most wire and cable and get copper price for it, thinner insulated wire WITHOUT the connectors I get payed "scrapwire" for that. Love the videos and the sense of humor you throw in there as well. Please exuse any typos or sentence structure as I live in Sweden 😀
@brackenrecycling95057 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Peder! I wish we could buy all of our aluminum the same. It would make it WAY easier on our end! But I think we would have some very upset customers! I'm sure the yard you go to has good reason to buy it that way, but without knowing their situation, I couldn't tell you why. If they don't move a lot of material very fast, then that could explain why they buy it that way. But if they are moving a lot of volume pretty quickly then you might want to have a little concern. I'm not sure how many scrapyards you have in your area, but I get a lot of people who are very limited in scrapyard selection, and they always ask what they should do because they only have one scrapyard within 50 miles. My advice in that situation is to save up as much as possible to make it worth the drive if you can get better pricing by taking it further away. Also when customers call and say they are coming from far away, scrapyards are more willing to offer you more money so they can get the scrap from you. The yard will make less money, but their only other choice is not to get it at all. Also, in your situation, if you can find another yard that does pay more for higher grade aluminum, you can use that to your advantage. You can take all the lower priced stuff to the yard that pays the same for everything, then take the better-priced aluminum to the yard that pays more! In my opinion, you're not doing anything wrong you are just using their system the most efficient way you can. They decided to buy items that way, not you! No worries on typos and sentence structures, you won't find any grammar police here! One of my very good friends is also from Sweden but now lives in California!

We use a fair amount of 6063 rectangular,square, angle,flat bar, and pipe in the marine industry.The reasoning behind this is its ability to be bent 6061 does not bend well without cracking,so if you have a bunch of bent pipe or flat bar you may want to have them shoot it with a gun.This is a great video from a scrap yards perspective like he said make it worth there while with having some weight and most scrap yards will be willing to go the extra mile with you.

Would a scrapyard take aluminum that has Ben melted down and poured into ingots or bars?
@nwrstrength43557 жыл бұрын
Ok, so besides the physical characteristics of it. What is the difference between them when they are melted down? What is the difference between them when they are originally made?
@brackenrecycling95057 жыл бұрын
Recycling the World, I made this video mainly to help people who are scrapping these items to be able to identify and sort them. However, this is a good question. They both almost contain the same elements just different amounts of them. These elements are aluminum, manganese, silicon, chromium, copper, iron, zinc, magnesium, and titanium. So depending on the chemistry of the aluminum ingot that a mill is producing would determine which one of these metals they would add to the smelter during the process. They might use all 6063 Al, or maybe just a little bit because that's all they need to produce the ingot they need. Because they have different amounts of these elements, it gives them differences in tensile strength, yield strength, shear strength, elongation, and brinell hardness. The chemical makeup is what gives them unique features from one another. For example, 6063 provides a very smooth finish and can be easily anodized. It is not as strong as 6061 but it can be shaped easier, so I am assuming that's why they give window frames the architectural shape to make up for the strength (kind of like cardboard). I'll be the first to tell you that I am in no way a chemistry expert and I don't make metal so I could be wrong about some of this! Thank's for watching and sorry the video was so long!

@iantuck63646 жыл бұрын
Could you give the difference in pricing, like the 6063 is 10 cents a pound more or what ever? I am a small supplier to scrap yards and usually hang onto the extruded until I have a couple hundred pounds but always have mixed bare with painted. Maybe I could make more money and make it easier for the scrap yard if I sorted better.Great videos btw. It is nice to listen to someone who actually knows what he is talking about.

What about aluminum chain link fence, my local yard won't take it unless I cut it up into strips.Seems like a lot of work. Should I just bother?
@brackenrecycling95057 жыл бұрын
If it is aluminum then it would probably be worth your time, depending on what they are paying you. I can't think of why they would want you to cut it in strips? We would just buy it as is! Maybe they don't have a good baler that will process it. Now I'm curious!

hi if i have a a/c radiator thats all aluminum and i take out the aluminum tubes would they still be considered sheet or extrusion? cause they are tubes like the copper ones just aluminum.
@brackenrecycling95057 жыл бұрын
Michael, great question! We would buy them as sheet aluminum. A general rule of thumb for me is if you can easily bend the material without applying very much pressure then it is most likely not extrusion. My advice would be just to make sure there is no iron or other non-metallics (plastic) on the radiator and sell them as aluminum radiators. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions about it.
@les33165 жыл бұрын
For awhile now I've been just throwing all aluminum together as aluminum sheet (cheapest) but I'll definitely sort it because it's twice as much at my local scrap yard For 6063

what about cast aluminum plate 1/2" and 5/8" inch?
@brackenrecycling95057 жыл бұрын
Michael, if it's cast then it will just go with cast aluminum. I will have to cover this in a video. You brought up something I forgot about. Sometimes you will see plate that looks like cast but it is really 6061 aluminum. It can be difficult to tell the difference believe it or not. Maybe I can find some time to make a video on it! Thanks you!
@brianhuber12116 жыл бұрын
If i cant tell if its 6061, which my scrap yard classifies 6061 as Sheet Alum... But cast if i cant tell i can break it sometimes and then ill know, also being able to tell the difference between pot metal and cast, potmetal is generally heavier that pot metal (Diecast) Correct me if im wrong haha

Dude that was a decent video and it's evident you know your stuff and I;m sorry to say you are a dying breed brother when it comes to knowing your stuff a lot of assholes in the business they want to make a load of money but they don't know what they are selling . I know within the last 20 or 30 years Aluminum 6061 is being used by bike manufacturers as it's lighter than steel , good weldability and doesn't rust like steel. and apparently they thermally treat it after welding to give it the strength. Funny to think Aluminum used to be one of the worlds most expensive metals until a couple of dudes discovered how to Isolate it cheaply. It's one of the most plentiful substances on the earth and it got me thinking must be a shit load of money in bike manufacturing lol. Nice one dude and that beard is is serious bro

You know this is a limited audience ..and I keep showing up . Its nice to tell people these things though. Seriously I buy tons of scrap from dealers and the public. What amazes me is smaller yards sell to me and dont know 6063 from 6061 ..But metal has always spoken to me . I can sell anodized as bare dude because its not paint its a dye and causes no smoke ?
