Scrap Cleanup 👌

Here's a quick little video of some scrap clean up we were getting done. Now they typically pay you something for the weight of the scrap steal - that number I don't actually know, it's not alot though 😆
That pile was larger and would have been a few years worth of collection but we like to wait until we can give them a full load.
Why don't we just take little by little to town when we go and get a premium? It's simply because we just don't have the time to mess around with it to be honest.

Mike if you check around some scrap co. Will bring you a big bin to put your scrap in then they will bring you a empty when they pick up the full one and send you a check that way you don't have all the scrap laying on the ground

Yes I did that in grande prairie for a concrete crushing job. It was super easy they just come pick it up in the bin. We had a conveyor with a magnet that shot it out to the bin

Here's a good one for you Mike, around 10 years ago I had our local scrap yard clean up 4 of our farm yards, ended up with $12,000. Because they were close I told a couple neighbors and they scrapped out too. They used the same equipment to pick it but had a shear to shear some big stuff. A year or two later I ran into the equipment operator and got to talking, he said he didn't work for them anymore. Apparently the $10,000+ magnet was set down at the scrap yard and well you can guess what happened.... it was scrapped!

I do apologize for that guys!.. There was disagreements between the crew/company and myself and as of result, I have removed them. Truegreen banned me from liking or commenting on their posts. I guess they never liked my comment I made when a person asked them if they take unwanted vehicles. She asked about a year before with no reply so I answered her, and said yes they do take them they flip them over on their side rip out the gas tank then throw it off to the side for you to deal with because they can't take them. They deleted my comment and answered hers. then banned me LOL. I have had very bad experiences with scrap collectors. I ran the last one off as soon as he said he was one. They fail to finish the job or they complain about the free metal they are getting for nothing. I am sick of scrap dealers.

Scrap steel is just that, steel. Not gas or plastic or wood or concrete. Why didn’t you remove the gas and tank first? They don’t take them and it’s very well posted and known. When you have scrap to get rid of, you can’t expect them to take the debris with it. The price of scrap won’t cover the recycling or dumping fee for the other debris.

Would highly recommend requesting bin service from companies like wheat city metals. They pay more for scrap and having a bin saves on mess. If you create enough scrap to fill a bin 1-2 times a year definitely worth it.

Nobody takes scrap metal to the landfill they won’t accept it

You can get yard/shop magnets you can push around and it will pick up all the lost nails, nuts and bolts

I do not think SK has a steel mil to melt it down to re use the scrap. It does need to go to AB or Selkirk Manitoba to be melted down. Correct me if I am wrong.

Some non-ferrous won't go with the magnet. But yes, a lot of shrapnel bits will be picked up.

When using a magnet like that they only get the metal even if you have rubber or anyting in the pile it doesn't pick it up like it would if he was still using the jaws

If you have trouble getting paid find out where they are hauling the steel and then address it there. Most companies will withhold their payments until you get paid.
